OK, I have had my S2 for just over a week now. While I have gotten some really nice images, I am still not sure what's up with this camera.
I was shooting an agility trial over the weekend. I had the camera set to 800ISO...I was mostly shooting in manual from around 1/1000-1500 at f11-16, with my prime Nikkor 70-200 2.8 lens. I was shooting at single servo, with the focus weighted to the center, Res was set to either 4256 or 3024 (switched, to see if that might be the problem). I swaped the color & tone around to see if different combos might help. The meter was center weighted. Both Saturday & Sunday were nice SUNNY days, with few clouds in the sky to affect pretty much nothing photographically speaking.
My problem is.....I am STILL catching movement blur! For example, the face is sharp, but the feet are blurred, which isn't a bad thing, but if vice versa, it's a huge problem. I know I could shoot at much less with my S1, or on film and stop action. These dogs were not moving faster than dogs at previous trials. I was also having trouble getting my shots sharp, I like tack sharp images. It seems the depth of field is off...I should have a HUGE depth of field with such small aperture settings, but I only have a few inches of depth. I am not sure what to think or do at this point....Do I go back to my S1, or continue trying to deal with the S2? I really love all the flexability the S2 has to offer. It's a much nicer camera than the S1. Although I prefer the S1 ISO switching to the S2.
I printed out several photos On Satuday night, to deliver on Sunday. I also printed several other shots too, just too play around a bit. I must say, I didn't hear a single negative word about the photos, even though I was not 100% happy with them. As a matter of fact, I was getting MORE compliments than ever! People REALLY loved what they saw come out of this camera. I do have people who think they know photography sometime challenge me for using digital, and get very picky about my images, but not this weekend.
I can live with some blown out highlights (S1), I can even tolerate the cyan/green bias the S2 has, that can be fixed easy enough in PS. But I am having issues with an unsharp image (S2).
