Is there a great difference between 'super fine' and 'fine' with resolution
Large (2048 x 1536) on the Powershot G1?

Super fine is better than fine. If you make large prints or crop you will see the difference.

Dear Stefan

Thanks for your advice, I forgot that part of this site. What settings did you use during your trip?

Well I had unusual circumstances, in that I thought I might need to store 4 months worth of images on my 1GB microdrive. I was travelling for 4 months around SE Asia, with most of that being in Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. I had no idea if I'd be able to back up my images to CD or not, and I had to assume that I would not be able to.

With the high-res sample images, when viewing them in ACDSee, I could not tell the difference in full screen unless I zoomed in. 95% of my images will probably only be viewed on the screen. For this reason I chose the maximum image size 2048x1536 (for when I do print), and maximum compression (which is called 'normal' I think). Each picture is around 500K, so I should be able to get 2000 on my microdrive.

It turned out to be enough. I chose the right settings for that trip, but now that I'm in Amsterdam, I'm switching back to Super Fine.
