It seems lately like all there is on these forums are grips with equipment...

I just wanted to take time out to say that in spite of Front Focus which I do experience every so often, I am thoroughly in love with this camera.

When I got my D-30 I loved it so much, I practically slept with it! But as time went on I lost enthusiasm. With the 1D my initial feeling was not as thrilling, but as time has past instead of getting less, my love for this camera is increasing...

My freind stopped over on his motorcycle today, and I just casually snapped a shot... And It looks just beautiful...

Shot with 28-70L @ f4 1/100th Handheld!

I know about FF, and underexposure... and the tests that I have done. But when I'm out Just Taking Pictures 99 out of 100 shots are PERFECT!

This thing is such a great piece of equipment.. You just Gotta Love It!

Ok, I'm done. I just wanted to post something positive. Before Canon goes out of business ;-)

You have a very nice shot!

I feel exactly the same way about my 1D. I have had a series of dc's starting with a Olympus 2000 & continually upgrading.

I loved my D30 also for quite a while & had a D60 for a while also. These where real nice, but the lousy AF really started to get to me. When I got a 1D, I wasn't totally thrilled with it at first either. After learning the camera, & the different workflow that I use now, I am absolutely thrilled with it however.

I originally bought it with the intention of selling it on e-bay when a higher resolution 1D came out. At this point however, I love this camera so much I may never upgrade again!!

I recently returned from Bar Harbor Me. & Acadia National Park. I took aroung 300 images a day for two weeks. Although they are not all great shots, in 99% of them the color & WB is absolutely perfect, as is the focus.

in fact you will upgrade and then you will not even have to go to the trouble of going to e-bay with your 1D. You will simply sell it to me the day you upgrade for a cool $2500, OK? Please? Uh? ;)

Nice bike and sharp picture for a 1D. Is it overexposed 1 stop?

Alfred.

Alfred.
Alfred,

Thanks,

The answer is no on the overexposure. I applied Brightness in PS... It is a little overdone... but I'm a detail freak, and was trying to bring more out in the wheels, and parts that were in shadows...

The thing to have done would have been putting one or two EX550's on the floor with diffusers for fill... But Like I said I just casually grabbed the camera off my table and snapped it with no thought or preparation...

LIke, at least I could have moved the trash out of the way! LOL!

That's the thing that impressed me, it looks as good as it does, and I basically used the camera like a point and shoot.. That's how good it is...

Thanks, Tony B.

John,

It's nice to know that a lot of others feel the same, and it's not just you. I know you were one of those that urged me to get it, when I was contimplating purchasing it... You steered me in the right direction, Thanks.

I'd like to see some of those shots posted, when you get round to it...

I never get a chance to get away... At least when I do, I know I'll have the Photography Covered! ;-)

Regards, Tony B.

Just don't make it a habit (like I have) of shooting dimly lit concerts, and you'll be OK. ;)

It's still a great camera.

And in case it wasn't obvious from my other postings, I'm pretty convinced my D30 and EOS-3 suffered just like my 1D does from front-focusing in the scenarios I shoot.

So, I'm not trying to single out the 1D. Not at all. It's just the first time I've done any real testing for this phenomenon . . . mainly because the thought of "Front-Focusing" had never occured to me until I read about it here on this forum.

Haha don't flame me yet...

I had a D30 & now I have the 1D. Other than the power difference, I am not convinced that CMOS is so great. Wait wait, listen. I mean some people seem to think CMOS is the end all and be all, but I have never seen proof that the CMOS sensor is the reason for the great images in the D30 & 60. The CCD in the 1D is not too shabby in the image department.

I think there are some really advantages to the CMOS design of the D30 & 60, like cost. (Which is very important) And the on pixel amp (but isn't the real reason for the on pixel amp, that the CMOS could not compete without it?)

I am not trying to cause trouble (there is enough already), but I just wonder if CMOS is really the one true holy optic sensor like people say, or if it is just hype (Not true hype because it delivers. But since it costs less to make I am sure Canon is happy everyone thinks it is so great.)

If I have commited blasphemy you can flame away. I won't mind, besides I live in a bunker ^ ^

is NO WAY I'm giving up the speed of the 1D after using it for a
while!!

I still think all around the 1D is the best thing going, for now.

Now you know how much I love my D30s.....

And day one (Saturday at Max Power @ NEC) with the 1D was frustrating and less than satisfactory... (Underexposure with 70-200 F2.8L and 550EX)

But day two (Sunday at Croft motor-racing circuit) has confirmed to me that the 1D was the way to go.

There is sooooooo much to learn about with this camera, so much to configure, customise etc, and it matters, it effects the results!

I'll post some samples later, but for know I'll say that the D30 is fantastic, and the 1D is awesome.

:)))))))))))))))

You're going to have to register a new website? Can't be posting 1D images to D30-images.com. Best of luck with the 1D.
