Some weeks ago, I posted the picture "Sailing" under the title "What a day". Some of you suggested to work it over, and I tried. Here are the two versions again. I tried to darken with the helpof gradation curves in PS. What do you think? Thanks for looking

I like the first photo better. To me when I look at the photo what jumps out, as problems are how bright the clouds are and the washed out look of the pretty mountains due to flare. The sailboat and passenger are about correct. I wold select everything but the boat and passenger and work to darken the clouds and bring out the detail in the mountains. You might find that keeping the background just a tad darker than the boat will work best.

Well I was tempted as this one looked tricky and I wanted to see what I could do:

I hope you do not mind.

First I did what I suggested. This was a good start, but needed a lot more.

I also did autolevels of just the boat.

Then I selected the mountains only and brightened the dark areas a bit and lightened the sunlit area a little by adjusting the curves. The trick in this adjustment was to leave the sunrays looking natural.

I’m shore that more could be done. I did this fast.

What do you think?

Hi Morris

No, of course I don't mind. I'm here to learn and really appreciate your inputs. But I can't see your version, just my two. I would really like to compare, could you post it again?
Thanks a lot

Look now, firewall had disconnected the server from The Internet due to an attack. We are back on line now.

Thanks Morris!

In your version, the sunrays are better visible. I think you did a good job here, for my taste, the mountain is a bit dark. If I could combine the best out of all the versions, it would be great. But I don't know if it's worth the time. I learned a lot (still an absolute beginner with PS), thanks again.
Kind regards

Hi Klaus

No wonder, the first one is the natural one. After trying and working it over several times, it seems to me that I always want too much. If I can see that it is worked over, I'm not satisfied.
Still learning and enjoying it

The mountains are a real challenge due to the different lighting conditions. You can get them lighter, but then they do not look natural.
