Hi.

I a new to this, and want to learn more about " how to read and understand " the real time histogram in the dimage7i.

Does someone have a good link to a beginners guide of some sort?

Thanks for any advice.

I'm right here with ya! I just figured out the buttons that let you see the histogram feature...now I just have to figure out what it will do for me...and what that heart beat looking thingy does!

Haha :)))) heart beat little thingie ??????? Do you mean the HAND SHAKE icon? I am not sure I followed you there.

If you mean the handshake icon, then that means you have to use the flash or better light conditions to get a picture that are not blurry.

The first link above is great - thanks! I'm one of those people new to the brave world of histograms...

The second link above didn't work for me - I always got "Cannot display page" errors.
Try this instead:

By the way, how do you display a histogram on the D7i? Sometimes I see one together with the picure (in the upper half of the LCD), sometimes I don't. Can't figure out how to make it appear when I want to.

Press "i+ " button. The one to left and above the menu button.
Thank you for the link, this seems like a good start trying to
learn more about it.

go into Photoshop and play with adjust levels. That is a histogram and you can make adjustments. If not PS try DIVU. Try with dark pics, light pics, pics w no black or white (all midtones) etc. You'll soon get the feel for it.

Histogram tells you (or me anyway) when I might be clipping bright whites (right side) or blacks/shadows(left side) based on current scene and exposure. All fairly new to me too. Play, experiment, try again.....
