Hi-

I am looking for a digital camera (between Fuji, Nikon and Canon) for taking product images for my catalog (mostly indoors a few out side). The products are bottles (mostly plastic and a few glass). I can spend up to $1000.00 or so..

I am looking for a good suggestion and need a camera which will take sharp images and will not fall apart like my Olympus. Size does not matter...

Thank you for all the help...

If money were not an object I would suggest the S2. but, the camera without a lens is about 3X your limit.

Seriously, I would choose the 602.

The E-10 is in your range but I believe the 602 is the better camera.
The 707 has flash problems among others.
The D7 and D7i have latitude problems, exposure nuisances & others.
The G2 is IMHO out classed by all of the others above [but due to it's flash
problems the 707 might be an even worse choice for your purpose]
The Nikon 5700 I believe will be a good camera but not significantly better
than the 602. With the difference you can purchase a decent flash
system [not the best one but more than just usable].

Caution: These are my opinions and no one else may agree.

Hi Ray,

Thank you very much, I wish I could afford S2, maybe one day. - I looked at the S602 is that same as the 602?

I have narrowed it to the following:

Fuji S602
Fuji 6900
Nikon Coolpix 5000

Although I love Nikon (F2,F3 user) - I really love what I read about Fuji S602 and 6900 so far.

Which one would you go for?

Keep in mind this will be my first semi-professional digital camera - I really need it for my work - a photographer quoted 4,500 for 10 bottle images for me. I rather invest in a good starter D-camera and add on as I go along.

Thanks again :)

Hi Julia,

I looked at S602 and love what I saw - there seems to be a little price difference between S602 and 6900 . Would you say 6900 is better? Are there any major problems with either? How would they compare to Nikon Coolpix 5000, or would they compare at all?

Thanks so much for all your help!

Kay :)
6900 or s602

The 602 is superior - its the replacement.

The only difference (from what Ive read) is people with small hands don't like it so much.

But if youre in a studio... with a tripod... then I dont think you need to worry about that.

Fuji S602, Canon T90, Canon FT, Olympus Trip 35, Lomo, Lomo Action Sampler, Voightlander Brillant, Kodak Bullseye.... do I have too many?

Hi James,

I will use a tripod. It is great, I really like the S602. I wonder why 6900 is more expensive than S602?

Thanks for all the help..

6900 is fashionable. "The fit and finish of the 6900 Zoom is excellent, it's bigger than pocket size but can be easily carried in your hand or around your neck for hours with little to no fatigue. It does fit in the palm of your hand but expect to be the center of attention when other people see you using it, it is very "cool" looking." - Steve Digital

The new S602 would give you everything 6900 can do and more but you would lose the super stylish look.

Which of the two is "better" and "superior", it depends on who you ask.

One thing for sure they're both Fuji and you know you want it. :)

Hi,

LOL! I am 85% sold on S602, would have been 100% if I did not see the Nikon Coolpix 5700...

Thanks so much for all the help...

Kay :)

Actually I'm getting a Coolpix 5700 in a few weeks (my 4th digital camera) To be honest, I rather have this Coolpix 5700 than S602. Just remove the name of Nikon from the camera and you'll mistake it for a Finepix 6950. And if you've held one, you would understand why I chose 6900 and Coolpix 5700.

Well I have to say thats a matter of taste... and seeing as it's being used in a studio... I don't think it matters.

Plus, and this is a very personal statement, how anyone could go for a camera because its more stylish is really crazy, its the finial output and the ease of use that really count.

Hi Julia,

4th Digital camera...? I am a bit jealous ;)

I am in trouble - not sure what to get now! However, since I am just starting out and also need money to set up a small personal studio for my products, I may have to shed a tear or two and forget about Coolpix 5700 for now...

Unless, I hit the lottery soon :)

Let us know how you like the Coolpix 5700 when you get it, will ya?

LOL! True, but some people like both...I am an easy going lady. I need the best output while wearing my stylish overalls covered with dog hair :-)

I think I am going for S602 - Coolpix 5700 seems to be brand new and I prefer to wait it out and hear the reactions...am I right?

Thanks for the help :)

True, true, but then the S602 is pretty stylish in itself.... but then I might be biased :)

I have no idea, all I know is the S602 is a very very good camera.

And personally, 6900 more easy to use than 602.
And personally, anyone can buy whatever they want for whatever reason.

(coz they can)

and the price..and the pixel...and the zoom.. and everything else whatever the person's purpose may be in buying a camera. I chose 6900 eventhough it's $200 more expensive than 602. Unfortunately, not all people are as 'genius' as you to buy a camera just for it's "output." Some are probably "crazy" they would buy a camera for a gift to someone or a practice before they buy more expensive cameras.

Once a 2600, now a 6900, getting a 5700 next week, planning for Nikon D1X

When are you getting 602 or 5700? I'll get my 5700 next week (or the week after) If you can wait till then, I can take photos using both 5700 and my brother's S602.

Hey Julia,

This wasnt any sort of personal attack or anything! Stay off the coffee!

Well seeing as the 6900 is an easier to use camera for you then you made the right choice. Thats what I said before, right?

of course these things count... and I agree with you... but the situation we are talking about is in a studio. This is a totally different thing; the final output the most important thing - and the final output is made up of a number of different factors. You just agreed with me on this! The price isnt really a determining factor in buying because you have to limit yourself to your own budget. The megapixel - well thats the final output.... the zoom - well if its in a studio it doesnt usually matter too much...

Hey Kay,

Is it for indoor shots? Then S602 is for you. It's even better than 6900 (indoors). Cheaper than both 5700 and 6900 too.

Consider refurbs of 5700 also. But make sure to get it from a source with high reputation. Save yourself a buck.

I'll keep you posted when I get my 5700 in a week or two. But let me tell you that you can never go wrong with the Fuji.

Kay,

Personally I'd be very surprised if you didn't get good results with any of the FUJI 6900 / 602, Canon G2 or Nikon 5700.

Which do you prefer the design of ?

I'd recommend going to a camera store and trying them all out, you might really like the look/feel of one.

Anyway, here's a link to a few bottle shots I took with my 6900 shortly after getting it. They're next to a review of the 6900.

Best of luck....
