I don't believe it.

I spent an hour the other night when people were talking about the moon conjunctions thing and thought i'd have a go myself, well i soon gave up after playing about with tripod/self timer/manual shutter and wot not and thought i would never get a shot.

Well tonight i looked out the window and saw that there was a nice moon but with quite a lot of cloud drifting around and thought i'd have a quick bash with just the camera and me.

Hand held, spot focus/p mode and spot metering 1/15 5.6 iso 100 @ 400mm with the 45-200 mm lens and this was the second shot i took.

what do you think.

Great! I have tried to get a decent moon shot with the G1 and the
45-200, however, I probably used the wrong focus mode and did not
succeed. This shot looks good!

Thanks Gabi, i used the single focus bracket but changed it to its smallest size, i think that was the key change i made from my first attempt.

That's an amazing shot hand held. I wouldn't have thought it possible. I hope the pic now gets you going to do some more night shots for us.

I can see the quality in this shot - this lens faired very well in
the Photoreview

http://www.photoreview.com.au/Panasonic/reviews/cameraaccessories/panasonic-g-vario-45200mm-f4056-mega-ois-lens.aspx

The hand held part - not doing anything we shouldn't expect of it -
my TZ5 moon shots are pretty good hand held to a telescope eyepiece
which would be impossible without the mode 2 stabiliser - and PP of
course.
The OIS does seem to make really difficult shots more likely.

what do you think?
I think it looks just like many FZ-50, FZ-18, FZ-28 moon shots.

Thanks Erik, but my point was that it was hand held, something i
never achieved with my FZ30/10/2/1, but thanks for taking the time to
comment.

Mark,

That's what I meant, too. Not "knocking" it, it's just that all of these Pannys have good lenses & good OIS ;-)

There are lots of ones taken with the models I mentioned, and TZ's, not to mention the TZ "Digiscoped" - held to a telescope eyepiece mentioned above.

Good shot? - yes, indeed, unusual?, not on this forum.

I got Jupiter + 4 of it's moons when Jupiter was on our side of the solar system last summer with my TZ-3 (not handheld, although it would probably work)

The Moon +Jupiter + Venus conjunction shots posted in the last couple of days had several taken with FZ-50's - one by Robiro & one by J.C. Brown which showed Jupiter with one "moon" (actually two moons very close to one another, which augmented the moons' brightness and compensated for Jupiter being twice as far away.)
At least one of those was on a tripod - not sure about the other.

I was outside trying to get some shots of the moon that night myself, without success inc tripod.

I think i may have got caught up in my own excitement Erik, for me the moon shot iin my OP was so much better than anything i achieved in the past with pana FZ cam's, maybe my point should have been more clear, maybe i should of stated how good the OIS is ( IMO ) on the G1, no way was i trying to promote the G1 as the greatest cam of all time and that no other FZ cam was capable of the same image, but just how amazed i was that it was hand held, thats all.

Over exited G1 owner, sorry.

I tried tonight with the kit lens at 45mm with EZ with no luck, need more zoom!

I tried again with both EZ and DZ turned on and got decent results!

I found that when DZ is turned on, the manual focus assist doesn't work.
