FastStone 3.6 may have a virus false positive

Tried to download the lastest version of the popular FastStone image viewer. My anti-virus prog is BitDefender on Windows XP. BitDefender says FastStone has a "backdoor.generic" virus and auto deletes the download.

Emailed FastStone. They say it's a false positive, don't worry about it.

Emailed Bitdefender. They stand by their flagging.

Would appreciate someone trying to download FastStone and scaning with any other anti-virus and reporting results.

I just downloaded the exe version a few minutes ago with no problems. I'm using Mcaffee anti virus.

I downloaded 3.6 when it first came out. Been using it ever since with no problems.

I think Bitdefender has a poor detection method. Only Bitdefender and other poor AV think it's harmful

The major players like Norton, ESET, Kaspersky, McAfee, AntiVir, etc find nothing.

For me it is a false positive...

Didn't know about those file scanner sites. Now I'm better armed.

Jumped to BitDefender from Norton a couple years ago. No problems (and no infections) since. But when my license expires in a few months I'll have to shop around again.

I use Avira free http://www.free-av.com/ with XP x64, to check what AV is good see
http://www.av-comparatives.org/ and read the Comparatives.

Another good one is avast! ( http://www.avast.com/ ) which is free for personal use.

(although my option was to switch to linux and forget about virus ... )
