PLZ, no more PETS, KIDS, FLOWERS!

Hello, Hassy:

I have never thought of my work (product photography) as particularly exciting and did not think anyone else would be that interested in it. But since you asked, here is one example I did the day after I got my D100. I still happened to have this carpenter's work light in the studio after a D1 shoot for color fliers. When my D100 showed up the next day I thought I would set up and take a comparison for the fun of it. Both shots have had some PS7 levels, curves and of course a lot of compression for the web which accounts for the slight jaggies. I could only match the lighting by memory so I'm sure there was some difference in placement and exposure there.

The first image here is the original D1 shot. It went to the printer pretty much the way you see it. I also had it rezed up and printed at 30x20 and it is excellent.

The second is by the D100. I haven't had time to print it or anything so I don't yet know just how they will compare.
This is not very scientific, but maybe it will help you some. PatiO.

Folks, don't take this the wrong way, I love your pix but, it would
be great to see some shots by the professionals out there to really
see what this baby can do.

Studio, portrait, product shots, weddings, PR, photojournalism.

Or maybe the folks doing these shots are too busy working.

Maybe I should post this over on the ProDigital discussion.

I guess I was right. Judging from the lack of responses, there isn't any interest... :^( PatiO.

VERY NICE!! These are the kind of shots that boost my confidence in the D100. Keep 'em coming folks. It's nice to see that this camera can shoot sharp pictures. Thanks PatioO!

Amen, amen, amen...

True, you don't really want to criticize any of the posters of pictures. But really... 95% of the pictures are terrible. And I'm not even talking composition here.

A lot of the posts have been things like "Look how sharp the D100 is" and then the posted example is "NOT SHARP". Or even worse, overly sharpened in Photoshop.

Without commenting on the qualities of the D100 I can't tell you what a breath of fresh air it was to see Moose Peterson's shots. Even if the images were sub par on a pixel basis the images themselves were a relief.

If you want to know the difference between professional and snapshot look no further than Moose vs. the majority of the forum pics.

The "bluring" you are referring has nothing to do with the camera. The motion of the blades is causing this. The tail of the heli is just as sharp as the center.
The helicopter is fantasic!

Most pictures resized to 600x466 from a 6mp pic are perfectly sharp.

Hi PatiO,

I like the top shot better. Both look good, but I prefer the top.
Nice work..

I couldn't agree with you more. The pictures posted here so far,
in general, are about as exciting as watching paint dry. The low
point is reached with pictures of pickup trucks. It seems to me
that many photo hobbyists--not image makers--are really more
interested in the hardware than the software, ie. evocative images.
I get quite a chuckle to see just how much money they are throwing
at equipment that is way, way more than needed just to record a
record image of the old pickup truck. Reminds me of the high end
hifi spectacle when people were paying thousands of dollars per
foot for connecting cable in their stereo systems but they never
listened to anything more compelling than country and western for
which a wet string would've done just as well to transfer the
signal. Oh well, different strokes, as they say.
--Don't forget about all the insect pics too.....comments on this are helpful...the volume of flowers, insects, and grandkids...really boring.....sure would like to see some of the pros post some classic portraits.......
