Has anyone ever used this brand of paper? Purchased some on sale at Fry's Electronics a couple weeks ago, and results are horrible. Photos are very grainy.
I guess I should have known $4.99 for twenty sheets was too good to be true.

John--

I've used most of a 50-pack and am quite happy with it in my 1270. I compared it to perhaps a dozen other papers (Epson and Red River types) and find it to be very detailed, NOT grainy when 'Photo Quality (sic) Glossy Film' is the paper selection, and more colorful and contrasty than virtually any other photo papers. I've NOT yet compared it to Epson's Premium paper, but at about half the price, it doesn't have to be that good, does it.

Costco.com sells the 8-1/2x11 for $19/50 plus plus, and from 24 thru 30 July, it'll be only $13/50 plus plus. I'm stocking up! Costco.com also has 11x17, 13x19, and 4x6 sizes.

Jeffrey,

I have been using Epson Photo Paper, with great results. This is the first time I have actually used paper which said "Glossy" on the package. The paper looks similar to the Epson, shinny on one side. I notice you used the "Photo Quality Glossy Film" selection. Adobe Photodeluxe has "Photo Paper" or "Photo Glossy Film". I used the "Paper" setting, assuming film to be like a transparency or something. Wrong choice? Should I have used the "Film" setting?

John

Make sure the shiny side is UP on the 1270 and most probably choose the glossy photo paper setting in the print driver selection. You will have to experiment, but at $4.99 you can. I love this printer, but if you tell it a different paper type than is what is loaded, more often than not the results are not good.
It does seem to like the Epson paper, I have tried Kodak with mixed results.

I almost forgot. If you want excellent results with not much cost use the photo quality ink jet paper or the heavyweight matte. They aren't "shiny", but the print quality is outstanding. Boost the contrast and saturation a little and at arms length, you'll be hard pressed to tell it isn't a glossy print. The color is that good.

I bought the 13" X 19" photo quality ink jet at Fry's for $34.95 for 100 sheets to experiment on the results with my camera (Casio QV300EX) and printouts that size on the Epson 1270.

(The glossy that size was $49.95 for 20 sheets). The results with the photo quality ink jet paper were astounding. I am ready to frame it and the several others I did. First pass I forgot to change the paper type (from plain paper) and the results were pale, and grainy. (Sound familiar) Good luck with it. BTW you can get the 8x10 size 100 sheets for about $10.

John--

I'm making those choices in the 1270's print driver. I find this paper so contrarty and colorful that I reduced the color saturation about 15%. I've left the contrast alone. As the others have said, do experiment with the 1270's settings.

I just read all your postings and I think you are talking about 2 different types of paper. One is GQ (Great Quality-yeh right) from Fry's and another is Konica.

I tried GQ and here is my story. The first two prints I printed on Epson 700 came out better than any prints I have ever seen in terms of quality but not how glossy it is. Then something happend, don't know what, and I could not duplicate my experience again. All prints after come out smudgy, lack of details and so on. I do refill my 700 so I thought maybe bad ink. So I printed on Epson 900 and same thing even worst. It is like only two top sheets were good.

Or I had setting that I forgot about. Don't know. Maybe later I will try again but for now I will print on Mitsubishi paper.

Eugene--

I believe you've right. I thought someone said that the QP was available at Fry's, but it's sure not at mine--but that 'GC' is.

BTW, Fry's has a good supply of Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper, but like LOTS of things there, it's at a rather high price of $17/20.

Eugene,

I think you are right. I checked the package, and the word Konica is not to be found anywhere. I have tried printing 5 x 7 s with photos taken with my 2020z, and they are really poor. I have not tried printing on the dull side of the paper, might just try that next.

Hi John,

I have an HP820 printer. I bought the GQ paper at Fry's and printed all 20 within about a day. I was very happy with the results. I did end up having to manually adjust the printers output. The automatic setting put too much ink on the paper. I went back and got 20 more. I'd recommend this paper to anyone who is using an HP820 or similar printer.

John,

I have to agree with some of the others here. The GQ, as well as Kodak and other non-printer brands, works well on the HP, but not on the Epson. I have had several of each brand of printer and that is very true - HPs inks are much less sensitive to paper type. If HP ever gets on the longengivity bandwagon, my Epson's will be on ebay.

Jeff,

Is the Costco sale next month only for in-store sales, or on-line sales. I live in Texas and there are no Costco's close.

BTW I have used this paper in my 1270 with excellent results. The paper is indistinguishable (to me) from the highly touted and very expensive Tetenal SpectraJet. The Tetenal and Konica QP even have a nearly identical diagram on the package showing the various emulsion layers. I suspect they are both made by the same company.

Holland--

The only Costco 'location' that sells QP paper is Costco.com, so you're in luck.

Again, the regular price for the 8-1/2x11 is $19/50 plus plus (if Costco does not do business in Texas, perhaps there will be no sales tax). The other sizes are priced from $19 thru $23. The 8-1/2x11 is on sale from 24 thru 30 July for $13/50 + +.

Yes, I noticed the great prices on the larger sizes too. Buy.com sells the Epson Premium Glossy for the Epson 1270 printer for

$34 for 20 sheets. The regular costco price is quite good, and there are quite a few reports of yellow shifts using Epson's paper
with the 1270.

I have found the BASF/EMTEC paper to be better than the epson equivalent,
Im not sure if that can be sourced in the USA?

To my knowledge, Konica paper is Made in Japan, while the Tetenal SpectraJet is a German company. I tried them both, and both are excellent, even better than the Epson premium glossy paper in term of color saturation and accuracy, in my opinon.

Tetenal is a German headquarted company with factories all over the world. Tetenal customer service said SpectraJet is made in their Berlin factory.

Since Konica clearly says made in Japan, the papers are not made by the same company.

Jeffrey:

I got some QP paper and I love it. Photos come out with better color accuracy and saturation especially better skin tone on QP paper than on Epson premium, even though the Premium is more glossy.

One thing, though, I heard about the fading problem on the Konica paper, but that was me posting about one or two ago. I actually rinsed the QP paper photo for more than five minutes under tap water and it seemed nothing happened.

What is your experience with this fading issue on Konica paper, is it prabably they already fixed the problem?

By the way, thank you for the tip to select Film setting when printing, it really help to reduced the puddle that sometimes happened in some dark area.
