Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA!

Canon Printers/Scanner service department is good, you will usually get a reply in the next business day. As for their Digicam department, forget it. One month now, still never get any reply about the crack issue.
First person in Malaysia to post this here, if I read correctly! =)

I'm so lonely over here! It costs so much to ship anything to here!
=)) You guys living in the US should be really grateful. =)
You're not the first Malaysian. At first I thought non Malaysian
are here.
I have posted 'G2 crack in Malaysia' and got no answer.

have been to this site 1 year ago and found it to be very good.
Planning to buy G2 at first but now decided to buy Canon S330
instead.

It is ridiculous. Few months back, around March. One of the shop in Midvalley Megamall offered me RM3050 including some free gifts! It is the shop in the center court, opposite IT Center(not sure about same floor or above). Couldn't be hard to find...
When I was shopping for my G2 , the lowest price I could get quoted
over the phone is RM 3300... =( But, a friend of mine who owns a
camera shop sold it to me for RM 3180. I don't know how much it is
now though, since there recently was a price cut. Canon advertised
the POwershot G2 in the newspapers for RM 3488.

If any Malaysians here are interested in purchasing RiData CF cards
in Malaysia, please contact me. I had some difficulty locating
them, but, I managed to source them! =) I'm using a 256MB
Ridata... REALLY fast...

So, until next time!
Am going to KL Wednesday - holiday + Pangkor - want to get a
Powershot G2 or S330.
Usual questions - where and how much?
Thanks Guys.

Do let me know too if you found any good deals. I am currently eyeing on the G2 and 5700. I have given myself 3 months time. If in these three months, G3 is out, definitely buy it. Otherwise, I am more to 5700 due to its zoom capability.
thanks, Paolo
Hi!

I have been into Kuala Lumpur and Malaca five weeks ago and I must
tell you that KL is one of the most beatiful and friendly cities I
have been all over the world. And is a great place to buy things, I
dont know why you are complaining! Perhaps you should come to
Europe to find out the obscene prices we pay for electronic goods
(2 to 3 times more than in US or HK or KL!)
it might be cheap for you.. but definitely not for us residents...
its dollar for dollar... as in you might earn 3000 USD but we earn
3000 malaysian dollars. multiply your 3000 by the conversion rate
which is 3.8 and there you go... all stuff becomes real cheap.
friendly cities? I assume friendly ppl? heh yeah msians have a
tendency to be friendly to foreigners... especially those
shopkeepers. hahaha
I have been into two different shops in KL, one in the shopping
mall at the Petronas Towers and the other very near the Regent
Hotel. In both places there were cameras (photo and video) and
accessories at fantastic prices. Two examples: the Micro MV
videocam Sony IP 55 at US$ 1400 ( $2,330 in Europe); Nikon FM 3A at
$600 ($1000 in Europe)!

So please stop complaining and enjoy your beautiful coutry and the
affordable prices you have! By the way, do you know that in Europe
a G2 costs $1,100 and the new Nikon Cp5700 $1,700!

This makes me wonder if I should save a little and then fly back to
KL to buy at once the two or three items I want in the near future.
The savings would probably pay for the trip and I would have the
advantage to enjoy Malasia a bit more!

Sungei Wang is still around, but not sure about 'Photo Store'. I am glad you enjoy to live in Malaysia. For me, after one month staying in Melbourne, I miss that place very much. Human will appreciate and miss those things which they have gotten the least... :)
Peace!
where else could you do tawar menawar(bargaining) with the shop
owner,no need rebates at all.just be cool and faithful with the
shop and maybe he could even include free stuffs too..try doing
that in us...hehe.

and whats more the food is delicious too!!!

That's very cheap indeed! Could you let me know which shop you got your Black G2? If I am not mistaken, one month back, the black G2 in Melbourne is about A$2200. You have got a really great deal here. Where are you located?
yup.. you guys will definitely find stuff in msia much cheaper than
we msians would.... sadly...
but the tax in germany is also one of the highest in the
world...... :)
soooo maybe that'll bring a smile to your face :)

yess... as i said... its a weird irony that msians seem to be more
friendly towards tourists... they are terrible towards their own
kind. and believe me... its true.
Hi Mun Weng,

Well said. Thats why I hate to go to China Town. Those
guys(shopper) are so irritating that I'm too embarrass to go there
anymore. Once I was there to look around and ask for the price.
When I walk away as I feel it is expensive, he rudely said 'no
money, do enquire for the price lah' and when I stare back, he gave
me a fierce look and wanted to hit me up. But if the customer is
'kwai loh', his tune will be 'never mind, come later if u feel
free'.

What kind of attitute is this. So my plead to all the foreigner is
DO NOT say Malaysian are polite. Sad to say we are not. Malaysian
only polite to 'Kwai Loh' as they wanted to 'fan' them...
Hey, I was not saying that stuff was really cheap in absolute
terms. I was just saying that I found the prices in Malasya much
lower than the ones we have in Europe. So the fact is that we are
being ripped-off enormously and yourselves just a little!

By the way, it is a policy of multinational companies to have the
same prices in every country in Europe (a direct result of the
introdution of the Euro). So, we have the same prices in Portugal
and in Germany. Just a small problem: the average salary in germany
is five times greater than in Portugal! So you can imagine how good
we, portuguese, feel about the European common currency!

One final note: people were in fact very friendly in Malasya and
not only the employees at the shops (by the way, I didn't bought
anything!)!

I visited KL from Australia 1 month ago and purchased my G2 at
Sungai Wang. Black G2 and I paid RM2400 also got Sandisk 128CF card
for RM 180

Found virtually every store in the centre to be friendly and
helpful. Only one lady was a bit "that is my price take it or leave
it" when I purchase a CF Reader for RM80. Am wishing I had
purchased a 420ex now.

Very happy I purchased in KL and love my G2

Nikon 5700 recommended selling price is around RM3900. Anyone has better deals? We should really form a group for digicam owner in Malaysia.

Why dont you all form a group buying strategy with one or two good dealers, have someone sign up the names, then buy at bulk, everybody will be happy, and come back with savings?

Is foto-shang the best store in kl? i mean the cheapest.

yes things are seemingly cheaper here, but not that much considering basic living is so expensive!!

like, how about paying US10 for a plate of chow kueh tiaw?

PeterC : Could you tell me the shop name to get a digicam with good
price? Both online and shops around KL.
Trouble with M'sia is that there are two prices. Sticker price
and actual price. Online has two problems -- lack of penetration
of credit cards in M'sia (growing but low) and the likely published
web prices will be sticker prices.

There are several stores in the Mid-Valley Megamall. Ground floor
along from MPH centre court (Mutiara?), there's one up on the
other side of centre court on S1 and then there's one up across
from the IT shops on S2.

There were a couple of shops in Cold Storage (Bangsar) I tried
a couple of years back -- prices were poor.

In the past I've ended up buying kit from Foto Pertama (1st floor)
and Foto Selangor (ground floor) which are in the Pertama Komplex.
If buy it online, does it
have international warranty?
That depends on the manufacturer/distributer. Canon's Ixus warranty
in M'sia is restricted to M'sia only.

I'm currently hunting for a Canon Ixus 330 in Sungei Wang. I found a shop called Tarita, and the salesman offered me for rm1590 for a case, 64mb SanDisk CF , and maybe a tripod too. i surveyed other shops ....... cant find such low price. anyone had bought things from Tarita before? or anyone can find lower price than this shop? Thanks.

Hi Kew , I click your profile but I can't finf your e-mail .

Do you know what is the street price forFuji602 and Nikon4500.

Please help...
Cheers,
Kew
Kew ,could you please tell me what is the best price to get in KL
for a D100, and coolpix4500 ?

In Penang there si one shop that quote 4500 as RM 1950.00, is it
cheaper in KL ?
Kin Yan,

You need to shop a little more. I got my nikkon 2500 here in
Penang for RM 1050 (without any hassle on rebate or what so ever).
Other shops were selling at RM1288 and they would not buldge at
all. This shop that I went to, opening price was RM1100 and I got
him to reduce RM50 after agreeing to pay cash. Now planning to get
S330, will scout around again..

Cheers
Kew

By the way, USD 1 = RM 3.8

Hi Kew,
Please do update us how much you got for S330. Sg. Wang price at
RM1699. Will try to look around at KLCC. As for G2, KLCC sell at

(come with 32 mb ram).

If I am not mistaken, cameras are tax free, could be including digicam too. Only issue is warranty, whether valid worldwide or only from the country where you bought it from.
I agree with you. I have bought things thru eBay, but postal costs
are high. If not for the choice i wouldnt have used eBAy
Just wonder, do we have to pay tax or anything when we receive a
new camera posted form overseas?

I'm staying in Malaysia. If a friend from Japan buy a new camera and post it to me, will I be taxed upon receiving the package???

hi .. Mutiara and Foto Selangor are "people friendly". So are many of the photoshops in Bandar Utama. ..

Hi .. So far Customs have cleared my goods. The biggest package i received which is a card reader (CF, smartmedia.. etc) was cleared by them. Most of my orders are received within 9 days. As I said the thing which kills is postage by air. Situation is actually unavoidable as range of photographic accessories available is is narrow. Some shops in KL are willing to order for you. If they do, then its cheaper than going thru eBay.
