Oh dear,

Optical low pass filter is just another name for AA-filter. Maybe a better name but still the same filter and functionality.

Nikon could not come out with a "as rumored" BIG surprise without first addressing the basic high res model offering . . .hence, what we are seing now.

I believe that the BIG offering is yet to come and will be another level offering of Nikon photographic excellence. It will be more in line with my universal model suggestion and likely will incorporate all three levels of MX, FX and DX in one body.

But, the reality was and is that Nikon had to make a basic high res model offering. I would suspect that this model will also be in the price range of the 5K mark. Imagine if they wouldhave come out with the "coupe de gra model" first, at what it will almost certainly have to be price ranged in the 7 to 9K mark? WHOA! Major whining and some rightfully so as it would have immediately knocked out the highend comsumer/amateur market buyers.

Now, by doing things this way. Which also brings in the most dollars for Nikon. They will end up keeping the masses happy and also take the lead with their ground breaking model to come.

Pretty evident by the ISO range.
Sure. Looks like Nikon's aiming this at studio and landscape guys, though. I doubt most people are going to use it at more than ISO 400.

I'll stick with my D700 for ridiculously low light shooting. Nikon really got the recipe right with the D3/D700 for that kind of shooting. The noise at high ISOs looks enough like film grain that it's not objectionable, IMO. I'm so used to high ISOs looking like bad video capture that it's taking me some time to get used to being able to shoot at 3200 with impunity and 6400 being usable. But I'll get through it. ;-)

You see, there a few problems with the launch date of the D3X. Some people are still going to wait to see what this "BIG" might be...Possibly affecting the sales of the camera...

Another problem is the unknown as to how current lenses will perform with the new camera, especially that 70-200mm VR. No indication/clue as to when some of the older lenses might be updated.

Also, I called a well known Nikon dealer in the UK asking about the price. The person on the phone said he had no idea till Monday. I then asked about availability. The answer was that Nikon decided to tell everyone who subscribes to the Nikon Pro magazine, before informing them...

What's going on?...

My, guess, and it's nothing but a guess, £3,500 to £3800...

. . . in an a900 size body and similar price range - with a walk around 70-400 lens to suit the pixels - so i don't have to sell my lovely nikkors -

So by the term "exclusive" i take it to mean that this is nikon speak
for; "not the same sensor that showed up in the A900" ?
I don't think you should take it that way at all. The talk about "exclusive" in a sentence that includes the sensor, the OLPF, and the readouts.

I'm not saying it's a Sony sensor. Just that you have to be careful when reading marketing material.

As I learned in another thread, this simply means that the 24.5 MP sensor will create a final 8-bit tiff image file of 75 MB. Apparently this is a standard file format for many commercial purposes, like stock photography.
