Folks, don't take this the wrong way, I love your pix but, it would be great to see some shots by the professionals out there to really see what this baby can do.

Studio, portrait, product shots, weddings, PR, photojournalism.

Or maybe the folks doing these shots are too busy working.

Maybe I should post this over on the ProDigital discussion.

I couldn't agree with you more. The pictures posted here so far, in general, are about as exciting as watching paint dry. The low point is reached with pictures of pickup trucks. It seems to me that many photo hobbyists--not image makers--are really more interested in the hardware than the software, ie. evocative images. I get quite a chuckle to see just how much money they are throwing at equipment that is way, way more than needed just to record a record image of the old pickup truck. Reminds me of the high end hifi spectacle when people were paying thousands of dollars per foot for connecting cable in their stereo systems but they never listened to anything more compelling than country and western for which a wet string would've done just as well to transfer the signal. Oh well, different strokes, as they say.

What a kill joy. Besides like most new camera owners, I get my camera Monday evening and work for a living. I can't get much further then the front yards flowers and pets for a week or two to take pictures. Give us a family vacation or at least a few weekends to collect more interesting images.

Besides everyone is starved for new D-100 images of any kind. Studio shots look great but don't bear much on my camera buying decision since my shots are all using uncontroled lighting.

Part of the problem comes when people feel pushed to grab some shots and put them up right away (Hello, my name is Scott and I'm a pickup truck photographer).

The "real" photos will start showing very soon. I know in my case, I have spent this week learning the controls, and now, its off to a week and a half assignment shooting 9 concerts in 10 days.

So, hang in there, the pros will be showing their stuff soon enough. (Moose Peterson has posted some pics he shot with the D100)

I'm glad all the owners posted images, pets, flowers, girls, men. There just isn't one perfect subject. All subjects are. From the posts I've seen I can draw my own conclusion about image quality and I'm grateful for that. So, no problem here with pets, kids and flowers.

If you send me a D100, I'll provide you with perfect studio portraits as soon as I get it.
If you don't, I'll wait for mine to arrive.

Good luck with those gigs Scotty. I'm going to attempt to shoot as many bands possible of the 80+ at a rock festival this weekend. Gotta get a 12 x 10 colour magazine cover shot out of it too. (for all those interested it will be a D1X @ ISO 800, fine jpeg, normal sharpening, with USM of 50,1,0 in Photoshop .....)

You're beginning to win the argument in favour of D100 usability
with examples like this. I looked at it and my hair blew....
Thanks, Roger :-)

Question: When shooting long-lasting assignments (like the concert this weekend), how do you empty your CF (?) cards? Using a laptop or some other storage device?

I'm usually okay with 2 x 1 gig Microdrives (around 660 fine jpegs). I also carry one of the first generation Digital Wallets (6 gig) - I will use this when I get a chance to back up or empty the cards.

Mr. HassyGuy,

Point taken. However, I would really appreciate you posting some of your images - studio, portrait, product shots, weddings, PR, and photojournalism so that we all can learn from and enjoy your professional work. That all said, often pets, flowers, and the kids are excellent TEST subject. As a pro I am sure you don't take your new camera gear out on mission critcal assignments without doing some serious testing - so how do you test your new gear. In my house it is Sophie 'The Maine Coon'. Hey, aren't their portrait photographers who specialize in pets - and make a good living at it.

Kind Regards. Terry.

Indeed I would post, but I have not purchased the camera yet.

I am one of the many "undecided" who are waiting for PHILS REVIEW!!!!!! and some compelling images to budge me off the mark.

My primary interest in the camera is as a replacement for heavy, bulky medium format gear. I do mostly on-location work with and without strobes, and simply wanted to see what practicing pro's have to say about the camera.

I am sure you would agree, reading these posts, I don't know what to think: IT'S GOOD -- IT'S BAD -- IT'S GOOD -- IT'S BAD, and so on.

By seeing some professionally lit shots, I could better judge if the D100 will fit my bill. Right now, it looks like it should.

But I understand where you're coming from. Yes, it's important to test the gear first.

If you are indeed a "hassy" user, I doubt that you find the results you are looking for in the current crop of DSLR's. You would probably be well served checking into a leaf or kodak digital back. If, however, you now use a G-2 or similar high end consumer model, you should like the D-100, or X or H, as they all will perform very well in the studio. I have a D1 and D1x, and only got to shoot a D100 in the store, but judging from that 20 minutes, I think it's a keeper.(FWIW)

I don't know if it helps, but I had to go further than my front yard, I was bit by mosquitos, set up a tripod...

When you complete comparative study you mentioned in a previous thread(Medium Format Scanned vs. Digital), please post the images with your conclusions. We would all be interested. Surely, a camera shop will let a professional such as yourself take a few photos with a D100 or D1X.

Sad. The D100 is sharp in the center, but as you move away from the center, it blurs hopelessly. Just look at those helicopter blades! ;-)
The helicopter is fantasic!

Yes, I use a 500CM, but looking at some of the better samples on this forum, I think the 6M D100 may have enough resolution to handle a 10inch wide 300 res run on a press.

I have looked at leaf, kodak and phase one digital backs but 20,000+ bucks is out of my ball park.
