After 6 months of virtually no clouds, they have appeared! Caught these yesterday with my Uzi and Hoya R72 IR filter. Post-processed with PSP7's channel mixer, curves, and an additional layer to apply slight sepia effect.

Great IR stuff Mary. I would have had trouble with these because I would have had to take them over my shoulder while gettin the H outa there. LOL.

Ya gotta have clouds when taking landscape IR pix IMHO. I see postings of landscape IR's with no clouds and while they are sometimes nice to view, in the main they leave me cold.

Great shots - love them both - thanx for posting. When I see your name and IR together on the same line I know their going to great.

....looks like a bumpy night ahead! Great shots Mary!
Actually, it was Bob that had the bumpy night. They moved on outta here and down to Phoenix so he could take his lightning shots. By the time it got dark, there was no lightning to be found here (near Prescott, AZ).

Your lightning shot was great. More black clouds outside now and thunder rumblings, so you may have more opportunities tonight. Wish we'd get some rain dumps, though.

I agree about the clouds and IR. But you have to be able to see the sky, too. A mostly cloudy sky doesn't do anything for me either. I just wish my new D7i did infrared, but this gives me a great excuse ( not that I really needed one) to hang onto the UZi. It is such a wonderful IR camera.

That's some cloud ceiling. Very dramatic.

Me abandon the UZi? That would probably be like asking Ergo to abandon his appliances!

Guess I will not be seeing your mountain anytime soon. I do envy you having the ability to pop over there so easily. It has such interesting photo possibilities. The last time I was there, I still was doing film (remember that?). Will have to scan in the negs one of these days.

I have my own mountain now, though. The one in the first shot is the view from my living room (most of the rooms in my new house, in fact).

Well done! I like the cloud formations in the first shot and the way they skirt over the mountains... IR is such an interesting effect to do, it gives landscapes that added little oomph. Thanks for sharing. Hope you're getting some rain from them. (o:

Mary,

Great shots! This is the area where IR does so nicely and you have captured these masterfully! Thanks for posting these.

Mary,

Great IR stuff! Isn't it fun?! I like to take the IR shots, but not many chances once the summer rolls around. Hey, where in AZ are you?

KK

I'm just north of Prescott (about 90 miles northwest of Phoenix). If you're still planning to come to Phoenix in September, maybe we can get together for a photo shoot. We could go over to Sedona or something and do some awesome red rocks pics.

IR is great fun, too. And who would have thought that seeing clouds again would be so welcome. Have you tried any IR with your E10? I guess the IR filter for 62mm (or whatever your threads are) would be fairly expensive.

Great pictures, they are really breathtaking.

Don't worry i caught my breath again, so I did survive ;-)

A question though. Can a IR filter be used with any camera that accepts filters ? Or does the camera have special IR modes ?

I have the C-700UZ and if it works I will get a IR filter for it - the effects are stunning.

I can almost "feel" the tension in the air... awesome!

Take any w/o the IR filter on?
