Finally, I'm convinced ! After professionaly shooting for a week now with
my D100 and doing all kinds of subjects for my news-
paper (no action or sports, my D1 handles these faster) ,for
the first time I can see the full quality of this camera. Man, these
raw-files are sharp and have all the detail that was there
in real life. Excelent color and the 16-bit gives all the room
for tweaking in Capture or PS. I'm convinced, this is a great
camera ! And the soft jpeg's ? Well, some sharpening-tricks
in PS make them very acceptable, specially for newsprints.
This will make a fine second camera for me ! (Not to
mention the awsome high-iso results, never had such great
shots on 1600 and above ).

Frank...how about posting some samples? Thanks!

With jpegs, what in-camera sharpening plus what photoshop USM parameters produce the best results for you, in combination?

Frank, would you mind show us some high ISO (especially ISO1600) outputs so I can compare how I'm doing with my D100? Thanks a lot in advance.

Simon

I would love to share some samples with you,
but since I don't have a website to link to I
don't know how ! So if someone could give me
some advise, please!

Frank.

There're plenty of free photo sharing websites on the internet the one I used to use is hosted by Sony:

http://www.imagestation.com/

I chose them because they have no limitation of disk space you use and all on top of that, they allow you to post full-size images.

I've uploaded some untouched JEPGs from my D100 there, hopefully I'll find sometime playing with NEFs this weekend.

Thanks.

Simon

Frank

I have shot 2 nef files and can't open them in anything on my Mac, how do I open them?
Disoppinted (and can't spell) D100 owner PP

When I installed Nikon View 5 on my Mac G4 powerbook
it also installed a plugin in PS to open the Nef's with and
do some minor tweaking on the whitebalance and exposure-value.
I now have a pre-order for Nikon Capture 3, because my version-2
can't handle the D-100 nef's.

Frank.

You already have C2 and so presumably a D1 or some sort – it is beginning to emerge that one or the other will only exist on the same machine.

Need more research.

On my windows - I cannot open the D100's Nefs - I already have a D1x installed.

Ger,

I have a D1 and C2 doesn't accept the nef's from the D100.
Luckely the price of C3 (app. € 150) is much more affordable than the
€ 600 three years ago for C2.

Frank.

you need capture 3 or nikon view 5.1.1 (not 5.0.1) to read d100 nef files
as the format changed slightly
