More 100-300L photos

I can't find this lens listed in B&H, Adorama, or Delta. Where did you get it? How much is it? Any web reviews anywhere?

Thanks,

Bryan

Hi Andrew

I have this lens also and yes it is a very good lens. People say auto focus is too slow but I dont think so only when it is from end to end of the focal lenth. I also have the 80-200 2.8 L and picked it up on Ebay for 300.00 this is my favorite lens. Point is for people who cant afford new L glass these lenses are the best for the money if you can find one. My next lens will be a 28-80L.

Yes, Steven,

For travel, the 100-300 is the only long lense I would consider because of its size and weight. Unfortunately, the 70-200 is very heavy and

I found the F4 version to be soft. I had a 28-80L and I did not like it...it was not all that sharp and very heavy. The 28-70, however has amazing AF on my D60.

So your saying skip the 28-80 and just get the 28-70L?

The 80-200 L is very sharp maybe a little sharper then the 70-200 4L. But you are right its almost 3 pounds of lenses. But this is still my favorite.

Hi Bryan,

The lens is out of production (100-400IS was released as the replacement). It's very unlikely that you will be able to find a new one in stock in large photo outfits. Keep your eye at ebay - every now and then somebody has one for sale. I had one and replaced it with 100-400IS (and still regret it, I'd rather have both): 100-300/5.6L IS sharper and has better colors/contrast.
Good luck!
