Wish I was there...
Me too. We had so much fun.
It's a pleasure to 'meet' 3 of you, friends...
Charles and Kurt were the best. Lovely, lovely people! and Alicia what a wonderful woman.
Do share ith us more your moments there...

Meanwhile, nice colors of a very nice series...
Working on the rest of the pics. Will let you know when I get them all together.
Have a great weekend...

Haha...so glad my eyes stayed open for one :-)
You did have your eyes shut in our group shot. Now if I was fabulous with PP, I could exchange eyes. LOL.
You haven't lost a step, Denise...the shots are great.

I particularly like the balance you found in the trees in the third
one...not to mention that color...
Thanks Charles. I just about lost it when I saw all that saturated color. It was pouring and I am yelling "Stop the car" "Stop the car". Poor Michele.
Big "Hello" from Alicia and Big Hug from us both,
and big Hugs back at you both!!

Cheers, Denise

Except you've got guys in every port. ;) Hope your husband doesn't
get too jealous.
Howie and I both cracked up when we read this post!
Glad to see some more Dpreview meetups from distant members. I was
glad to have met you when you were coming through Ft. Lauderdale last
year too - I'm particularly jealous of the fall colors you captured
since I haven't even seen those myself in years.
Fall colors are a tricky business. The last 2 times I was back East...at the right time...NADA, not a single tree with color. Much, much luckier this time.

Speaking of FLL, we will be heading down there are 10/22/09. Leaving on the Westerdam 10/25/09. Hopefully, we will be able to get together and actually spend some time taking photos. There is soooooo much I could learn from you. We will talk when the time gets closer. In fact, you may be ready for another cruise. Come with us!!!!!!!
Good to see you posting a few here again...though certainly no C&C
needed! You nailed 'em just right (the photos). :)
Thanks, Justin. I hadn't picked up the camera since June!!!!!!! I felt rusty but excited about all the beauty in my home state.

Cheers, Denise

thank you so very much. Three and Five are my favorites too. The saturation of colors in #3 is just amazing. Nothing like the rain to punch up an image. #5 was a friends back yard. I was in awe. We just don't have woods in California and I really miss them.

Hoping to get a photo or two in the Challenge. It has been months. My hands are cooperating right now, so I will get to it ;-))

Cheers, Denise

PS: You notice, no exclamation points for you. I feel like my hands are tied. LOL really hard.

Re: Marti, your dislike and disdain for me is obvious to all.
hmm i dont think thats true .......i never dislike anyone.
I'm new to DP Review, yet you have not made an effort to welcome me
as yet. You have looked up my history and made unfair comments.
being in many forums i not alway's * say welcome to one new* its nothing personal and the people who know me ....will confirm that.

Unfair comments ?? where did i do that ?
You just left an abrupt comment on your current thread to me. I have
asked you to give me a fair chance.
different opinions we all have .....nothing abrupt in my comment just a short answer thats all
I understand from recent comments that you are recovering, so I
considered that might attribute to your actions. But the more
familiar I become to this section of the STF, I'm seeing a lot of
attaboy comments. And yes, I understand this is a family of sorts.

My c & c was directed at Denise. She had requested c & c. This
photo is delightful in subject matter, but suffers greatly in
quality. It's way underexposed and is not flattering to the subjects.
ur PP is something i reacted on Voicing my opinion .... as u said all is subjective.
I will continue to voice my opinion. It might help our relationship
if you kept in mind that photography is subjective. What I prefer,
someone else may not prefer.
so true but on my monitor ur PP was to much the other way around ....something in the mid would have been better ( just muy opinion)
I hope that you will eventually welcome me to the STF as I plan to
stay here until its demise (whether welcomed or not) and I also plan
to be a very active member.
i would gladly see ur contributions to this forums......ur comments show that u know what ur talking about.

looking forwards to ur first shots.

dont take my comments/reactions ...personal...... i dunno u at all and i'm only around for Photography.

i'm not interested in fights with anyone.

take the time to learn me better and u will understand what i mean.

Glad you are back! IMHO you are the MMM (most missed member) of STF.

Also good to see your hands back on the cams. Great shots! One comment on the "Storm King Arts Center" shot. I would try a closer crop from the top. The sky is too bright and builds a too strong contrast to the wonderful rest of the image IMO.

Cheers,
Frank

PS: Do not miss the running challenge. We need your input! :-)

Perhaps It as a result from being in Africa, but I can not see how your comment can be interpreted as disdain & dislike. Perhaps I can also blame it on my Dutch heritage LOL.

Regards.

Ernest.

May the Focus be with you

When you get closer to your cruise date next year. If I'm in town, I'd love to meet up and maybe go to a good photo location somewhere if you've got some extra time before or after the cruise.

And I'll have to look into your Westerdam route - that is about the time of year I'll be looking to cruise again, so maybe it would fit the bill!

Marty,

Don't even try to answer back. You are going to lose it even before you start. She's gonna try to fill you up with guilt feelings from top to bottom and she sounds really good in that domain. So better run away as long as you till can.... LOL

Cheers

Thanks so much!! and here I thought no one noticed I hadn't posted ;-)))

I cropped quite a bit off the original photo because of the sky. I had been reluctant to cut off any trees. LOL. Below is the version you suggested along with a little cut off the bottom and left side to balance according to my eyes.

I really miss having PSE3 where I had a plug in for selective color. That would have taken care of the sky. It was cold and grey that day. My California bones were frozen.

Thanks for your kind comments and useful critique!!!

Cheers, Denise

Denise, not to detract from Frank's good suggestion, using PSE 4 I was able to change the sky which I think accomplishes the distraction that Frank mentioned but leaves the shot as you originally wanted. I know you could have easily done this if you had PSE available but for me it has been a big step in my PP learning. Trying to advance my skills.

Here is revised shot and I hope you don't mind, it really is a great photo.

Sky perhaps could still be a bit darker but I did not wish to overdo it.

Bill

for helping out. This is what I love, love, love the most about STF. So what did you do in PSE 4? I am using PSE6 for Mac. Also, I am almost hopeless when it comes to anything other than levels, hue/saturation, contrast and cropping!!!!!! Any help is appreciated big time.

Thanks, Denise

You're welcome Denise and I also really like to see the sharing of ideas and techniques. Actually I spend quite a bit of time over in one or two of the Canon forums as I have been shooting RAW with my 40D and this has been a whole new learning experience both for the camera and shooting RAW. While there is a lot of tech talk over there, a lot of folks still take pictures and a kind sole put us onto a couple of web sites for photography (other than tech) and one on PP. Here is the site that I picked up on the sky replacement.

http://www.msjphotography.com/

The link should open at Photoshop workbench 151 (click on bird picture) and while it appears to relate to the more advanced versions rather than Elements, I was able to fumble my way through to produce a sky and clouds from scratch even with PSE 4. I am going to try one of my own shots to make sure I can do it again. Also thinking of upgrading to PSE 6 or 7. Fortunately Canon has a very good (free) raw converter so at this point I don't see a need to spend big dollars to get CS 3 or 4.

Hope this helps. If not, I will be happy to try and explain what I did. By the way, I think you are still way ahead of me when it comes to post processing.....I am still waiting for the light to come on -:)

You have more than done justice to my beloved New York woods. I'm glad you got them when they were "just right". Also glad you had a good time; wonderful meeting you. Uh .. Alicia is indeed fabulous but she is Charles' wife, not mine :-).

Kurt
