I made few prints with this printer, the normal Canon photo ink and the recommended paper p101 pro.

It appears that, after leaving those prints on the wall of my kitchen (they are pictures of my kids and my wife wants to see them all the time...), the colors vanish after only a month. I feel that I have to use a photo lab if I want the same quality as normal prints.
Is it normal ?

Interesting.

Can you tell us more about the environment?

Is the wall in direct sunlight? For how long?

Is there anything else in the environment that may have an effect, like ozone (generated by photocopiers, laser printers, and some fax machines) ?

I have a print in a window that gets a good 4 hours of hot direct sun, and after almost a month, it's showing no signs of fading.

I made a 4X6 on my S900 using Canon inks and PPP paper for a friend and he put it on his refrigerator with a magnet. He has had it there for about 2 weeks and he noticed that were the magnet is the color is darker then the rest of the picture. It appears also that the picture is fading. The picture is not in direct sun light.

I haven't seen the picture yet.

I suspect it is normal. It could be related to air pollution but I doubt it. Basically, dye ink fades fast. Very fast. Pigment ink last much longer but it can fade as well. Prints from a dye sub will also be better.

You might want to check out this web site which has some info about the Canon dye inks (or it did a week or so ago):
