What to look for when buying CF?

I'd have to go for the Lexar 1 gig cf. It's about $900 but it's lightning fast AND it's not a microdrive!!!

Money won't be an issue, but I'm coming from smart media to CF, so I just want to get a 256MB for now to get used to the new camera first and then later will use this card as a mean to bring files from home to local shops for printing.
How do I find out what speed the card has if it's not labeled?
