i'm thinking of getting a D100, but it's got to be able to produce better (sharper) photos than i can do today, SO in the spirit of the 'pepsi challenge', i would like you to post a D100 image that's a lot sharper than my D1 photo.

PLEASE pick a subject w/ lots of fine detail to be resolved!

keep in mind that i WANT the D100 to win (since i want to buy one!)

to make it EASY for the D100 to WIN the challenge:

1. i used my ancient lo-rez (2.7mpix) D1

2. i used a (horror!) ZOOM lens

3. i used a (double horror!) NON-NIKON lens (tamron) - but you can use your favorite prime micro nikkor!

4. i used a badly composed amateur type photo and subject matter so nobody will feel intimidated ;-)

5. i even left my CCD dust bunnies intact!

surely the D100 can do better than this?

I found you used a low setting in Sharpness but still got such a razor sharp image.
I am afraid the D100 can hardly beat the D1 !!

That image is hardly razor sharp. I thought the fur detail wasn't as that good at all. I thought "soft" the first time I brought it up. Hardly up to what the camera is capable of. That said, I guess I can ignore your comment that the D100 can't produce an image as sharp as a D1.

Can't do that, but here's my D1 shots taken with a 28-105 nikon zoom

Well, no "pepsi challenge" here because that involves taste, not facts.

No contest at all as the older D1 is a low res. camera by now. The D1x is of course much better but the D100 will beat the pants of both. It is hard to believe that Nikon owners are beating down Nikon improvements just to justify their old stuff. (Not you of course)

Looking at your picture is not a good way to compare unless you had both cameras side by side. I believe that their will be a market for the older cameras. Most brochure and web stuff requires less resolution and the D1 is pretty good at creating excellent images at the now lower resolutions.

From the first few frames I shot with D100. I did turn off in camera sharpening, but the rest is default out of the box..... Lens was wide-open at F4 so the dof is very narrow. Sophie says hi to your kitty....

We are looking at sharpness - I'm undecided. The D100 is tagging along on assignments with me and this is some of today’s work.

Whilst the content is basic and boring the quality is something you must decide for yourself. I don’t think the images are of high quality either actually – some of these will go to print tomorrow and we’ll see if they pass their first test.

What a dodgy photo.

The picture of your dog looks like a cat. Go and buy a Point and shoot!

Darren thks for your entry.

not sure what you mean by 'better' - care to clarify?

not convinced of the 'sharper' either - try having 2 windows open side by side - one w/ the D1 photo and one with your D100 photo.

NOTE: may not tell us anything anyway, since you did not post the original D100 image - just a small resized version.

It is sharper and better than yours

Terry, thks for being one of the few members to be brave enough to ACTUALLY SUBMIT a serious contender in the form of an original full size image INSTEAD of just more retoric, rumor, or mudslinging...

looks like you have the PERFECT model to create a comparison photo to end this challenge ;-)

would it be possible for you to do another shot w/ more light & dof?

thank you so much for your well thought out contribution!

i'm touched that you honored MY thread with one of your only 10 posts over the last year.

i also value your advice - what point & shoot do you recommend to me to improve my bad photography?

ps: my dog is pissed tho' ;-)
