Canon G1 + Tiffen 2x + Dragonflies

WOW! That about sums it up. I've been thinking about getting the Tiffen 2X and this and previous posts have pretty much decided it for me.

Here is one. Taken with a Canon G1, Tiffen Lens adapter, and Tiffen
2X set to Macro mode.

Why do you use the 2x for macro work? Is it because they would fly away if you got any closer, or for the more narrow DOF? I've found that with the 2x on my G2, I can't get nearly as small a field of view as I can without it.

Some very nice shots there, BTW!

This was my first time experimenting with macro and the Tiffen 2X. I haven't tried shooting them with the naked lens. I was looking to get a small depth of field. I was able to get about 12-18 inches away. I am not sure if I would have been able to get any closer. If I get the chance, I'll try without the 2X, and then with my closeup filters this coming weekend.

To be honest, I was using P mode. Wasn't even planning on taking these, I was just out for a little hike, and the buggers where everywhere. I was actually looking for an Eagle I have seen in the area.
Great shots! Av=f4.0?? Can you explain why you used f4.0 for these?
Thanks--
