I am going to get my D100 (hopefully) tonight!!!!! I have to wait for 7 hours more before I finish my work and rush to the dealer. Just can't wait so long. Has any Nikonian in HK already got his/her D100 on hand?

Would be nice if you could post your opinion here. Please also let us know your buying price. Will be dropping by Hong Kong in August. May buy there if it is cheaper. Thanks

Man Shing and Wing Shing at Mong Kok have already sold out their first batch. They will have their second batch (not more than 3) in today. I am not sure they will have stock in August. But the price they ask for is not cheap: HK17500 (= US2200). Since I have a trip with my family in next week so I decided to get one at this price.

hi KC,
how is your daughter's party goes?
so you finally make up your mind---D100. Good Luck on your choice.

It just seemd to me the S2 has better skin tone. More a Fuji Color, So I will still stay with S2.
Take care

Hi ****,

Go to hear you again. I have used my F80+AF24-120mm+SB26 for my daughter's party. Actually it was her class gathering after final examination. The party was good, you know, kids playing, snacks, singing, games, mom's talks....

I think both D100 and S2 would be great cameras since they are both based on Nikon F80 body. I have to sell my F5 tonight in order to trade in the D100. Don't know whether it is really a good deal or not but in recent days I tend to use my F80 more frequently than F5. I have visited Korea last month and watched the World Cup soccer match and I have borrowed the D30 from my friend and after that, I am in love with the D-SLR!!!

Just want to know why you don't consider D1X? To me, it simply because it is too heavy and not convenient for me to take pictures for my daughter (just like the F5). But I think the price of D1X is lowered to around HK30000 already and is very attractive.

Hi KC,

I'm also from HongKong. Do you remember how much does Wing Shing set the price for D1X now? I'm using D1h (also buy from them @HK$25000). I think D1X@HK$30000 is very attractive!!

So, have you got D100 yet? My friend got one the night before yesterday night. He said the focus speed is quite impressive... he still haven't test through yet...

hi KC,

D1X cost too much for me. ANd I think NIkon will put out a new Pro DSLR in half year or so. So, it is not worth it.
How much you sell for your F5? What is the condition? I might interested in it.
Let me know.
thanks

Hi ****,

Sorry I have missed your post since I am very busy in these few days. I have sold my F5 on last Friday's evening. The cost is HK$8000 (F5+MF28 data back). I have used it for 5 years. Now I own two camera bodies: D100 and F80.

Talking about the D100: it is a small, light weight but well balanced camera. Focusing speed is fast (actually it is very close to F5, you can't tell the difference), shutter time lag is short (just like the feeling with film camera), I am very satisfied with the images quaity both in tems of sharpness and colour saturation. Operation is user friendly and easy: extremely happly with the ISO range from ISO 200 to 6400, it is amazing!!! Imagine you can shot using the natural light even though you have mounted a small aperture lens (e.g. f/3.5/4.5) on the camera. I just cannot understand why so many people making so many unfair comments for this camera for they haven't used it before.

I just want to say I love this camera. I am sure I can shot many more with this D-SLR and improve my photographic technique and enjoy more about photography.

KC,

I am also from HK and I am very interested on where you get your D100 from. I ask Man Shing last week and they ask for HK$17500-, just as what you mentioned. I am thinking I can wait for a little longer, since I have my Olympus E20 for sometime already. I have traded in my Film camera (F100), except lens, cause, I still need lens for my D100, right? I will definitly go for digital!!

If you have time, hopefully will hear from you on your comment on the D100 compare with F5.... ( Like Auto Focus speed and Metering).

Furthermore, I learned from the web last week that the RitzCamera is sell D100 for USD1999- with free shipment. I really really want to get it at once. However, I stop myself for the impulse thinking, since, I know that within half a year, Nikon will have some kind of software upgrade or patch. I think I will wait at least another year to see the comment form the others. Therefore, you comment is important to us all!!!!!

Can't want to hear from you!!!

Regards,
Samuel

Hi Samuel,

My D100 is ordered indirectly from Man Shing (HK$17500). I know one camera store owner very well and he helped me to get one from Man Shing. I can still see one D100 in Wing Shing last night. You can go and ask the update price. Since I have to go to Malaysia with my family and friends for summer vacation, so I brought this little toy so quick. If you are not hurry, I would suggest you should wait for a few months and I think the price will be lowered a little bit. According to the US price (2000) which is approximately equal to HK$16000.

Well, I should say D100 is very similar in performance with F80: in terms of focusing speed (CAM900), body weight, operation command dials, light metering system, build-in flash etc.

F5 is sure the flagship model, with faster focusing speed (CAM1300) (but as I told you before, not much difference compared with D100), exclusively RGB metering (however, I found photos taken by F5, F90X(sold), and F80 are all looking the same results, so I just don't know what is the advantage of RGB metering), absolutely well-bullt camera body (but to me I think it is too heavy especially when mounted with my favourist lens: AFS 80-200mm f/2.8!!). And the most important of all, I want a digital SLR camera body. But my wife insisted not to allow me to have more than 2 camera bodies at the same time (you know, woman!!). It was my dream when I was a colleage boy that one day I must have a Nikon flagship camera body. BUt in the recent days, I get used to my F80 more and more and I found it can satisfy my needs perfectly and it is so easy to carry even with two or three lenses in my camera bag. Actually I feel quite upset when I sold my F5 last Friday, but quickly I turn to happiness when I get my D100.

I have borrowed my friend's Canon D30 and went to Korea and watched the World Cup. So I have both the experience with D30 and D100: D100 has a faster focusing speed than D30, but D30's operation is more user friendly. Images quality? I should say both are excellent. It just depends on your taste. However, I should say both Canon and Nikon system are very good, you have no wrong in investing on these two brands. Actually I used Canon A1 20 years ago and I switched to Nikon (F90X) a few years ago.

I have many works right now and must be finished before this Friday so that I can have my vacation. Hence I have no time to post the images taken by my D100. Will post some of my phtos taken in Malaysia after my vacation.

Good to have so many HK friends in here, like ****, Samuel, GH...Keep in touch!

hi KC,
I am in Canada.

I hate to tell u this, if you sell your F5 in ebay, you can get a bit more from it. What is the condition of your F5 anyways? I have to sell my F5 before I get my S2, just don't want to let it go. O well, I still have a F4E. My dream is keep the whole F series one day.

And I used to used Canon AE1 Program ages ago. It seems many people start from Canon then switch to Nikon.

Can you post some D100 pictures please? Try to over explosure for 2/3 stop, see if the picture will be better. Since the D100 pic seems a bit dark to me.
thanks, Have fun and play safe in holiday

Hi ****,

Don't know you are in Canada because many times I "talk" to you in real time, seems no time lapse!

I have used my F5 for 5 years (brought in 1997). I take care of my camera very carefully and usually I would save all my invoices and boxes (very sharp in goldern colour).

I would try to post some D100 images before I go to Malaysia.

KC,

Thanks for your prompt reply. Really can't wait to see your photos from Malaysia. I have a friend going there this week too, probably you both are on the same tour. He is using an Olympus E10. Both my friend and I are waiting for the right time to get the D100. I think in a year time will be good. I know that the Japaness Manufacturer usually have product review after 6 months time. Then, another three months for testing, the new and improve FirmWare will be out like a year later. Of cause, people may argue that probably there will be a D2 out in the market. However, what I am thinking is that it is probably much more expensive than the D100. To me, I really don't want to spend more than HKD20,000- on an camera body! In fact, I would rather put my investment on the lens and those are the things that good images count on.

Anyway, have a nice trip to Malaysia.

Oh, indeed, its good to know that there are so many people from HK post to this site.

Hi there,

I got my D100 last friday from W.Shing. Being a long time user of manual SLR and have been using the CP5000 since last December, I'm initially VERY happy with the D100 - my first electronic SLR.

In simplest terms, just feel like a SLR, without noticeable "digital time-lag", AF with my 80-200 f/2.8D (non AF-S) is accurate and acceptable speed. BTW, the internal flash is VERY accurate!

However, like many in this forum has raised, the picture seems a little bit softer than (I) expected. Maybe, at 6 mega-pixel, a 1:1 output on a 21" Trinitron CRT @ 1600 x 1200 would have seen "too much" and can easily

pick up any (missing) details; or may be I'm using a 3D accerator (GeForce2 GTS) instead of a HQ 2D card (i.e. Matrox G550 or so)

I hope I can have time to take some presentable shots in the coming weekend...
I am going to get my D100 (hopefully) tonight!!!!! I have to wait
for 7 hours more before I finish my work and rush to the dealer.
Just can't wait so long. Has any Nikonian in HK already got his/her
D100 on hand?

Hi Edmund,

Are you using the "Auto" for sharpness as in default setting? Try the "normal" or "high" to see if any difference.

KC,

I manually set it to normal sharpness and normal saturation, Auto WB, ISO 200, non-compressed NEF. My initial test subject was building shots under reasonably sunny afternoon, so the results "should" be sharp images. But they came out less crisp than my initial test shots of the CP5000 under similar condition... strange eh? May be I'd overlooked something important though...

Hey, I finally found so many of you from Hk.I am not from HK , I am from Penang.Last year I been to Hk and bought a Nikon 80-200 F2.8 from Tin Cheung, without warranty, really good price.

D100 is not yet launch here, but I was told that the price is only RM 6600.00, which is appox HK14500.00.

Here Coolpix 4500 is selling at RM1950.00 , approx HK4290.00.

Can some of you tell me how much is it cost in HK ?
