50D Liveview magnification not working, firmware 1.03?

I have tested the liveview magnification for manual focus and was delighted. I upgraded the firmware a couple of days ago and today tried the liveview magnification again, this time nothing happened. I'm suspect it's probably operator error, but can someone confirm that this still works with firmware 1.03 or suggest what else might prevent this from working.

Liveview works fine, the magnification does not work if the AF is on

Liveview zooming only works in Quickview if I remember correctly, I messes it up by trying out the Face detection before and the zoom would not work...

Magnification in liveview only works in MF mode.

This bit me in the butt too. After the shoot, I experimented enough to find out that with LV Face Detect AF, magnification is disabled. With the other modes, it works as normal.

Yes, you're correct magnification won't work in the LV "L" mode (Face Detect). I just tried it. Thanks for the tip!
