Autumn scenes from Canada

Hi Claudio,

I use a PS action to do the frame. If you email me, I'll be able to send it to you.

Thanks a lot for the kind comment !

Hi Janet,

thanks for the kind comment. I really appreciate it. I know your work and to my eyes, you are one of the best birder arround here.

You are right about the groose. It was my first real good opportunity to capture a quality picture of this bird. I took a few good one, but this on is the most interesting as it show the autumn colors.

The 80-400mm is a great lens for someone with a limited budget. It has great IQ and the VR is very useful for me. I hike a lot and don't like to carry a tripod or a monopod. All the pictures you see here are hand handled. The D300 hight ISO

quality is useful when the light is low. I try to keep the SS over 1/200s. I also like to set the camera to 1/320 and use the flash/full flash when I can. This allow me to keep the ISO under 800. That said, the buck (moose) picture was taken at ISO 3200 and the noise level is so low....I could print a quality 12x18.

Again, thanks for the kind comment !

Hi,

it all depend. When I took the male pictures, I was at about 30 feets. I would not go closer to a male, particularly during the reproduction season (autumn). The female are a different story. I was at about 20 feet, maybe a little less. I always make sure that I have a way to protect myself (trees, rock), just in case. Last monday, I took some picture of a female and of her baby. The baby started to walk in my direction. He was just curious about me. He came as close as 10 feet, but I decided to backoff. Not because he was dangerous. I don't want the little one to think that he can get close to human, this could be dangerous for him if he ever cross the parc border....he could face some moose hunter.

Thanks for the comment !

That thick black border is spoiling the brightness of the pictures. Try a lighter color if not white.
