I'm looking for a lightweight, waterproof, compact camera bag for carrying my 602 around in. I'm currently using an old tatty one from my SLR days and its very slim on padding and the camera is sliding around in it. :(

Compact size is important as I have a large bag already which I could use but its really too big to take on day trips.

My 602 will have the lens attachment fitted permenantly, and I will be carrying two spare sets of batteries and several memory cards. So a compartment for these would be useful. Room for an External Flash or telephoto lense (my next purchase) would be nice both would be better but I would sacrifice that if it meant the bag would be to big.

I've been looking at the LowePro range and the D-RES 40AW (possibly the 50AW) (although I think they look a bit ugly).

BTW I'm in the UK

Any other suggestions, (what bags/equipment do you have?)

Thanks

Phil

hello, I don't have a S602 now, but I planed t buy one very soon.. on the french web site where I think I'm gonna buy it, there is a Tamrac bag, the

5696, it looks to be just what I need but I don't think you could put a lens in it with the S602..

you could have a look here : http://www.tamrac.com/5696.htm

does anyone already have a Tamrac bag like this one? what do you think of it ?

Thanks Fred,

I've just checked out your suggestion and Jessops in the UK sell it for £17.90, it looks ideal for a 602 body and the internal dimensions of (WxDxH) 14 x 8 x 15cm would be a nice fit for the 602 with the adaptor on. I make the camera+adaptor something like (WxHxD) 13x8x15

I'm not a big fan of rectangular mini lunch-box bags or ones that look like women's purses. Instead, check out the Lowepro toploaders. Black looks good. (Note: I do not know whether the 602 will fit the mini TLZ. I have one for my Oly and inside depth is approx 6in. It probably will be a nice fit according to the measurements in Phil's review)

Hi PhilO

The Lowepro 40AW is exactly the one I use. I can't fault it for quality. It's grey and fairly unobtrusive which I like.

I can fit the 6900 with adaptor nose down, a big old flash, a spare battery, and charger, 2 cards in a separate front pocket, 1 filter in a seperate pocket, a cleaning brush and some tissues in the back pocket and a microporouse cloth .

It's totally waterproof but it has an additional separate cover that folds into the base that you can pull out and wrap it up in if it rains really hard. It's got a couple of belt loops and I've used them a few times without any problems. The lining is very soft and won't scratch your LCD, and antistatic, supposedly specially designed for digital cameras.
Hope that helps

well, good.. I think I'm gonna buy it with my S602, since it's sold at the same place, so no extra postal cost.. it's at 35 Euros at http://www.digital-shopping.fr (and 865 Euros for the S602).

I always use my Domke j-2 (being a kid from the Age of Aquarius, in olive drab canvas, natch). With a digital camera, it leaves me room for lunch.

I have not seen the Lowepro D-Res 40 AW in person but both it and the 50 if you want some extra room seem great.

I bought a D-Res 220AW as a thank you gift for my brother-in-law for letting us borrow his Oly2040 for about 6 weeks. I agree that I like the design-for-digital features of these bags and I LOVED that little "raincoat" that's tucked up inside a slot in the bottom of the bag.

I'm leaning toward the 50 myself to have some extra room.

I personally have a bag from Case Logic. It's Interior Dimensions are-23x10x15.25 cm. It may be a bit larger than what your looking for. I can fit my 602z, little Oly D360L, a battery charger, & a few sets of spare batteries along with a few memory cards. Great bag & also has removable velcro dividers {3 of them} so you can arrange this bag many ways. I really like it. My bag # is DS4

Galveston, near Texas.

Just bought the D-RES 30AW and it snuggly carries the S602 (no lens adapter), a set of batteries, and a few memory cards. This is just what I wanted - the bare minimum size case. As others have said the padding inside is very soft and gentle to the camera. I paid $30 at the local Ritz store.

I use a compact sized bag made by "Tech Gear". It won't fit a telephoto rig but will fit wtih the adapter tube and protective lens on. It's all water-proof, rip-stop nylon (the s602 manual warns about storing with vinyl), well padded with a quick-open wrap-over (all 3 sides) top cover, and has an outside zipper compartment for extra media cards and sets of batteries. $15.00 at Office Depot. I'm not sure if they ship overseas.

Dont know the exact details but I've got the Lowepro Nova Mini an in it

I've a 602 with the lens attachments , a fuji wide angle, My Centon FG30 flash, the Fuji Mains charger, the Hoya (Kood) close up set plus two other filter boxes, all my CF cards and PCCard Adapter, lens pen/fluid/tissues three sets of batteries in the mesh pouches at the side. If I swap my mains unit out I could put my Maha 204 plus car adapter for on my travels.

The Camera, sits in the middle , with the flash taking the whole vertical to one side the right hand grip sits on the folded over padding under which is the closeup lens... nice snug fit....

I have the Lowe Pro DRES 50AW and it holds the 602 with lens attachment, filter, lens cap, then the divider, and the Sunpack 383. The front pocket is good for spare batteries, memory cards, etc.

I happen to purchase this exact same bag for my 602 two days ago and it fits fine. It has two compartments for 4 batteries (that makes 8) and I even managed to stuff in my charger, powercord, an extra smarmedia card (duH!) and a videocable. It's pretty compact. You won't be able to fit any more lenses or a Flash. It's pretty full now. I ordered the origninal bag of the 602, but when I came down to the store to pick it up, I found out he ordered the camera instead. Go figure. Anyway. Still no bag and the guy who helped me came up with the tamrac. No regrets. I'm even glad I didn't get the original one. It's to tight. When you you drop your bag with the tamrac, there's a big chance, the camera will survive.
The size: W*H*D = 17*19*15 cm (fully packed)
Good luck,

The bag that I'm using may not fit your criteria (it's not that waterproof), but I thought I'd comment on it in case it might be of interest to others. It certainly appears that I'm unique in wanting a bag that is as small as possible for my 602.

I'm using basically a "fanny pack" camera bag that I found for $2.99 at a local closeout shop. It was originally a Walmart product. It barely fits the 602 with it positioned facing up, with little extra room. On the back (the part that sits on my hip) is a zippered pocket in which I can keep an extra card or two, and an extra set of batteries or two, and even a (very) mini tripod. It definitely does NOT have room for any filters or extension tube.

It has just enough padding to provide a bit of protection. But it allows me to carry my 602 with my without any real inconvenience at all, and that was my goal for it. It's been working out perfectly.

Here's a picture:

I finally got a new bag a LowePro Nova Mini. Its a bit of a tight fit but it fits my 602+adapter in the center compartment. My flash to the right and the telephoto lens just fits under the camera on the left. Nice size front pocket has plenty of room for batteries and cards etc. But overall its a very compact size case. Perfect for my needs.

Thanks to the forum member (I never got your name) who was in the shop at the time with his bag and 602 and showed me what a good fit it was.

If you read this can you let me know how you get on with your filter idea

Hi Phil,

Glad you like the fit, had to dash to meet the wife.....

The extender didn't fit but 40 minutes with a metal rasp and some fine sandpaper on the lip of the filter and a little black paint and I have a perfect match!

I'll post something describing the process (with a few pictures) in a bit..

See you around...

Simon.
