Which are most people using for resizing and auto manipilation to create CD, web sites, ect...

My priority is that it not damage the resized image, or interfere with viewing the origionally when you click on the link.

I recently published PhotoAssistant, a program for creating web pages from digital photographs. It is free to download from

http://photoassistant.it-utveckling.com .

I have been developing it in my spare time for some time and now I think it is good enough to let other people try it out to get suggestions and comments so I can improve it. Anybody is welcome to try it out for free. Please do not hesitate to e-mail me any suggestions, comments, ideas etc about it. I will continue to improve the program so all suggestions are welcome.

I have my own site that I build/maintain with Frontpage 2000. Is there a thumbnail page creator that will create something that can be imported into Frontpage and then 'published' as opposed to having to use an FTP?
Thanks,

AlbumCreator simply creates web pages based on templates. After they are created you can open them in frontpage and modify them as you wish but of course the real strength lies in the ability for you to modify the template used by AlbumCreator to generate the pages.

Hi Michael,

ABC-View Manager has a simple to use wizard to create the thumbnails and web pages.

You can create 3 levels:
  • Thumbnails (created by ABCVM)
  • Resized (or resampled) image (created by ABCVM)
  • Original image
See some samples here:
http://www.abc-view.com/samples/index.html

Download here:
http://www.abc-view.com/abcdnl.html

You can use the built in html template or edit it to your own wishes.

ABCVM just creates the thumbnails, html and resized images. You'll have to upload the bunch with another tool (FTP client).

Hope this helps,

Nils

I do like the style of this software, but If I look at several examples of gallery's I've noticed the photo's are really slow to download on your screen. In pbase they are there right away. What can be the reason?
And is it also possible to protect your albums with a password?

if you are talking about our sample galleries it may be the server.

check out the following galleries they are on a faster server

http://www.windowsdeveloper.com/bflies1/index.htm
http://www.windowsdeveloper.com/birds/index.htm
http://www.windowsdeveloper.com/birds1/index.htm

As far as the password goes this would be something you add to your web site. The web server has features to password protect directories.

Thank you Mike.

Yes, in particular the birds/index.htm are fast.
I like the photo's with the birds there ;-)
And also that layout for a photo-album!
I'll check the website again.

I'm not known with passwords and html, but I like to have my photo-album on my own website for my family and friends only, so I need a password on the website.
I still cant find out how to do that.

FrontPage will do it ALL ...without outside help.

RTFM.

it depends on the web server software. Depending on whereyou have your site hosted you can find out about this.

On Unix/Apache for example you can simply password protect directories by using the htpasswd commands.

Check with your host they should have some kind of tutorial that will show you how to do it. Sadly this cant be done inside the HTML pages except by creating server side applications.

That is done at the web server. If you have an ISP hosting your site, if they offer password protection, they should be able to help you set it up.

If the photos don't need to be super-secret, just not publiclly known, then setup up a seperate directory for them with a weird name (like "photos-abc123", or something else not guessable), and don't make any public links to the directory, then e-mail the link to your friends and familly, and tell them not to share the link with anyone else.

Even with a password, the photo albums won't be encrypted, so someone would be able to "capture" the web traffic when someone views the photos, but I assume you don't need to be that secure. If you do, then you need SSL encryption, which is also provided by the web server, and you might need to purchase an SSL certificate for the web server, and they are not cheap, nor are they simple to set up for an inexperienced server administrator (but once you've set one up, it is pretty simple the second time). But it might already be offered by your ISP, and they could help you set it up if you really needed it.

Hey Michael,

Probably a bit late here but thought I would add in another option..

Personally I use a program called Thumbs (not thumb+). Its a small program that builds your complete gallery based on included templates. The templates are quite easy to edit and modify to your liking. The main feature that I like about it is the abillity to have 3 size levels.

Thumbnail
Midsize Image
Fullsize Image

Feel free to look at my S2 Gallery at http://208.231.0.96/bedpan/S2/thumbs_d/thumbs_p.html

The program is free to use, or $10 if you want to add slideshows and/or remove the Thumbs icon from the bottom of the pages it creates...
