I have been reading this site for over a yearnow, and posting on and off for the fast few months. I was wanting to get people's opinins on weather they think Sony reads (and takes note?) of what is said in these forums.

I work in the advertsing and market research field, and know that forums and user groups are a great source of product feedback.

Interested in your thoughts.

Right on Shay but the real question is do they (are they likely) to act on anything they read here :-)

Mike
Yes of course they do, we have had confirmation of that few times
already. So they know we are here. And now they know that we
know. Which of course means we now know that they know that we
know ;-)

I'd be more interested in whether Sears reads the PM messages on this forum. Maybe that's why they are removing the F707 from their stock list.

Lets see... 1/4 million posts in the Sony Forum by Sony users not to mention millions more that come here to check things out.

I'd say Sony pays attention... you bet.

And if so, who in Sony? Someone able to make or influence decisions, or a low-level administrator or technician? I'm skeptical, because I've never seen a post from Sony. Please stop playing word games (we know, they know, etc.). Give us a straight-forward answer. My opinion is that Sony does its thing, which has no relation to what's posted here.

Not maybe-that is why. Why sell what you will take a loss on? Customers can be crazily persistant with comparison shopping-from a clerk's point, who needs the aggravation? (I am not a sales clerck). If it breaks in 2 years with these " replacement warranties", what will relace it? A compareably priced camera? If I get this camera, it won't be 'til next month-I bet there is not one in stock near where I live -3 Sears stores- so I'm set on getting it elsewhere-forget price matching. The Photo community is strong, and very communicative-word gets around like gossip at a WalMart in a small town.

Hmm, well let's think about that for a second. Sony sends Phil cameras to review. They do that so they can get the public aware of their products and to help convince people to buy their fine products. Phil tests and then writes the review. People read the review and begin talking about the camera. People buy the camera and then begin talking even more about it. They talk about likes and dislikes. Why would you as a Sony executive not have at least one person monitor the site to see what the weather is like down here? By never posting here they keep themselves disguised and able to walk amongst the users and see the true make up of the users. If they ever posted here it would collapse into the biggest whine fest you ever saw. So to keep it working and useful, they read but never post. What they do with that information ranges from ignoring to acting upon.

Even if there is no official monitor, there are plenty of employees who read it on their own. The information available on this forum can and does find it's way to Sony.

Ok that was the logic part of the argument.

Here is the only post I could remember and had the time to find:
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1009&message=2338653

But I recall others where a person had contacted Sony support and they were familiar with certain things brought up here and even some of the nomenclature we use (BFS, LEVBFS, dark angel, etc)

Ahhh, and maybe they do post but never acknowledge themselves as Sony. Maybe it's you...maybe it's me...heehee...

Most of the moves from the F505V to the F707 are proof that Sony does both read the reviews, as well as tunes in to forums like this one.

We've known this for a long, long, long time.
