Hello! I need to choose about 5 out of 34 photographs in the gallery below (link) to enter into a local travel photo contest. I would like to ask some of you to please help me narrow them down.

The photographs were only slightly processed through LR2. Please feel free to let me know if it needs to be processed more. Any C&C is welcome and appreciated!

Thanks!

In particular I like 11 and 23...

11 (Navy Pier) - Interesting, unique view of a very familiar place to many. Also the circles of the carousels make for a very pleasing composition.

23 (Duluth Lighhouse) - Unexpected vantage point. The lighthouse plays an equal role with the concrete pier...

I think 'travel' photos are interesting when they present a landmark or place in a special way that you don't see on all the postcards in the shops there... this is why these two in particular stuck out for me.

Thanks for sharing and for including us in your process!

Very nice work Dennis, 11 is excellent, I also like 2 for great color and the beach and 32 for that enduring monument in NYC.

My 4 choices:

3rd photo (Boracay, Philippines) — casual yet charming and very energetic.

11th photo (Navy Pier, Chicago, IL) — colorful and mesmerizing.

26th photo (Space Needle, Seattle, WA) — a very interesting perspective on that landmark.

30th picture (Flying together) — peaceful and inviting.

My favorite is the Navy Pier picture. Shot from above, the composition is excellent, the exposure is perfect and you can almost feel the "party" going on down there.

All show a very good, dynamic framing and composition and excellent exposure. But most of all, they tell a story.

My advice for that kind of contest is: if the picture doesn't seem to tell a story, then it's not worth it.

Can't come up with a 5th choice for sure, though.

I would also take a look at the 23rd photo (Duluth, MN), but again, I'd frame it a little tighter, removing some of the pier (there's a bit too much of it IMO). Or go for an even more "dangerous" move: frame the picture as a 6x6 medium format photo with the lighthouse right in the middle.

I could also try the first one (Boracay, Philippines), but framed in a panoramic format, to put a bit more emphasis on the upper part of the photo.

Hope it helps.
