Hi

What is there to protect the 7-14 lens while it is in the bag. Does it have some kind of protecting cap? If so: does anybody have a picture what the lens looks like with the cap on?

The lens looks too inviting to buy when looking at what some people on this forum have achieved with it, a bit terrified of how to keep it protected as it does not have any filter to protect it. Is the fear unjustified...

And I'm sure most people here felt the same too when purchasing it. With no protective filter it seems like it would get damaged rather easily, but you'd be surprised how well you can protect a lense simply by putting the lense cap back on. I keep the cap on all the time until I'm ready to take a picture. Take it off for the image, put it back on immediately after. No big deal anymore...

I have the cap in pocket when the lens is on camera, I was worried
about it in the beginning but not so much anymore.
I also do not replace the lens cap when the lens is on the camera. I carry my cameras over a shoulder, lens facing backwards. This creates friction against my hip. The dedicated lens cap does not click, but is kept in place by friction of the leathery/rubbery material inside. That works, but not enough when moving a lot. I've had people walking behind me in the Sahara come up to me with my lens cap that had fallen off. So now I leave the cap in the bag when the lens is in use. No problems so far, and I keep my fingers crossed.

--the only problem with the (sturdy!) cap is that it's huge and won't easily fit in your pants if taking the lens for a stroll without a camera bag. So when I go out with it I make sure I wear pants/jacket with large enough pockets. Other than that the lens' a gem!

It's a big fellow. Doesn't drop into a shirt pocket easily.

However, I've also noticed that I instinctively keep track of that big cap. If it's not on the 7-14, it will soon be.

Overall, I love the lens. Pricey, but worth it. A very unique perspective. Takes some time to get comfortable with it, but once you do the results are truly amazing.

Glass like the 7-14, or the Leica 25 are why I love the 4/3 system.

... that I put on after every photo taken.

Usually I don't use lens caps that much...

Best,

Claus.

Life is short. Get the lens. Be careful with it. lol
I don't use credit. I ate beans and noodles for a few months.
It was very well worth the price, and the sacrifices.
Only thing bad is it makes me want a splash proof camera to screw it into.

Oh yeah, also, if I put the cap on the lens after being in my hip pocket, then take it back off for another pic, the lens is fogged. If you don't have that problem, you have poor circulation. lol Rich

All with E330 and 7 14. Exif intact.
