I just read RIVERFOOT's thread on the recent death of his dog. Included in the story of his sudden sad experience and in follow-up posts is mention of the value of taking photos of your "best friend."

I can attest to this as two days ago I came across a treasure of old photo prints of Bif, my best dog, and in many ways a "best friend." His passing was also a sad experience, but time has tempered it. In it's place are these pictures. Old fading prints that I made digital copies of to preserve the memories even longer.

The purpose of this thread is to get YOU to take and/or share a few photos of your "BEST FRIENDS" ....your DOGS!

Cat lovers please start your own thread ... not that we don't like cats ... Bif loved to chase 'em. This for animals that enjoy the trick of shaking a paw or just being with you more than anything else.

I wondered why I didn't have more pictures of Bif and it occurred to me sometimes it was his fault. I remember trying to pose him for a close-up but he'd never stay still always coming over to lick me or the lens. Mostly it was my fault tho because I took him for granted. I shot the kids and scenery, but seldom the dogs. Bif loved walks we took where he could run without the leash and it was on one of those I got this shot.

My best saved memories are of the day the camera was out while we played in the pool. Bif hated water on bath day, but wouldn't let it stop him from chasing a ball ... or balloons filled with water in this case. He'd run barking along the four inch planks on the top edge like it was flat ground. Put a balloon out in front of him and in he'd go.

So go get some shots to share of your dog. Let us know what camera you took 'em with and anything else on your mind. For my shots it was a Nikon 35mm. I copied the prints with a Casio P&S.

He, in fact, is "She".... But we'll let ya slide, this time, since it's been quite a while since "She's" posted here.... ;-}

Sorry I'm without pet shots, despite having a new kitten for the past few weeks...

I totally agree - don't let the chance go by to take some really nice photos of your pets. Here are two of mine... the first is Stella who came to us at a year and a half after two bad homes. She's a long haired midsized dachshund. I've never seen a dog with more of a personality. She doesn't just walk into a room - she sizes it up what is going on, to see how it might benefit her - i.e. who is there, what are they doing, how can she get involved. The second is Tippy - he's now fourteen years old and looks great. He may see twenty. He is a shorthair mini dachshund with something else mixed in. He came to us through a dog rescue group in Michigan. He'd been waiting over a year for a home because who wants an older dog? Well we did and we're glad to have him.

A nice thread, indeed. I have had many dogs during my lifetime, and hope never to be without one, although my wife says our current Weimaraner, Souris, is our last. I am treasuring my time with her, as she is aging and showing signs of it, and I think her time is limited. But, I am taking pictures in anticipation of putting together a book after she is gone. She has performed what I consider a great service in leading my grandchildren, who live in a cat-centric household, to a love of and appreciation of dogs -- so much so that a dog will be introduced to their house after Souris is gone. So, in addition to pictures of my dog, alone, I have plenty of her with my grandchildren, illustrating the wonderful bond between dogs and children. Here she is:

Hope this works, as I hardly ever post, and have to re-learn each time.

This thread is a very good one, reminding us that we should record the happy times with our silent friends.

Well, I posted a picture of my little Fläka the other day on Riverfoot's thread, and regretted that I didn't have a decent photo of her sister Sköna, who didn't live as long.

Here's a film photo of "The girls", Fläka and Sköna, and their "cousin", Jay-Pup in back.

Jay is my daughter's dog, so they were all a 'gang' together Jay is younger, he's only 8 now, 'works' at the Winery, entertaining (distracting ?) customers.

I've had some pretty spirited discussions on this forum from time to time with this, but please note the vastly superior images the digital cameras give us, as compared to film. Not that film cannot "deliver", but that in general, for real people, we can be very, very glad that this technology is now in general use.

I do not intend to respond to this particular theme in this thread: I only bring it up because some examples are right here from the real world. If you want to dispute it - start another thread.

This is about dogs - our very best friends.

My best buddy, Comet. A 6 year old female Maltese that refuses to be left at home anytime she detects that I am leaving in the car. She is always happy and brings a smile to any human that meets her.

This image shot available light, late afternoon, wide open on an LX2 positioned perhaps 12" from Comet.

I'd LOVE to have a dog, but it's just not practical. I do enjoy my neighbor's (when they pick-up after them!) and the owners sure like my photos. The lady said this is the best shot EVER of her little pooch, Peanut. (FZ50)

Sure have got some GREAT photos in the thread. "Maggie & Max" with the tossing ring is my favorite.

Come ON Dog Lovers ... there's gotta be some more out there!

Hi All,
Just a couple of snaps of Jessie & Kate My two dogs.
Kate is a Japanese Spitz Cross & Jessie is a 12 Year old Blue Heeler cross

They enjoy their quiet time relaxing in the sun room.

Well what do think happened to this?

I forgot to put it back in the fridge after feeding time & the old boy disappeared for about an hour when I caught up with him he was very pleased with him self.

Katie Loves to do obedience classes & is a nimble jumper. So full of energy!

She is not sure about this Christmas party dress up though!

Why do do such terrible things to the one's we love?

When at a country show a couple of months ago we ran into a rare Transilvanian Kelpie he is definitely a night person, he hates the bright light of day!
I think his name was Igor!
