G2 - Gallery updated

Paulo, I always enjoy looking at your photographs. They are so beautiful!! Whenever I see your images, I think this is a gallery one should check if one were considering purchasing the G2. They are such great examples of what it, with the right photographer, can do.
Hi all, i just posted some new G2 pics to gallerys (mostly on family).
With time I will try to get the most pics I can from Madeira
Island, so that people can know a bit about it.
Criticisms are welcome!

Paulo, great work. Your daugher looks like a young Natalie Portman. Very relaxed in fron of the camera. Are you by any chance from Brazil? I ask because of your first name.

Hi Leezah (and all others) and thanks for the nice comments. I am lucky because i have good subjects :-) to photograph!

I still have a lot (if not all) to learn and this forum has been really inspiring for me.

Work from Don Ellis, Anders, etc (just to name a few) are real Art, and one day, i would like to have the ability that they have of making a great photo from almost anything. That must be the art of "seeing" and the experience to know that they will get a picture with the image they made on their minds and also mastering the tool, so that it can record exactly that (easiest part IMO)! That combo is hard to acomplish.

Regards all,

Great work Paulo. beautiful photos. I like the photo of your daughter and the balloons. Nice colours , reflections and lighting.

I take it your from your name you live in portugal? Its a lovely place.

Great pics with a G2.

For the flower shots did you use a closeup lense and/or a tripod? They are so sharp.

Thanks for nice comments. I am from Madeira Island - Portugal. Madeira is a small island ( 740km2) at 900 km distance from Portugal (main land in Europe) and is located at 33N 16W. Known for it´s temperate climate and nature, has been an holiday destination for more than 100 years. We have 25000 beds on Hotels that are 95% full all over the year (not only on summer). Have you heard of famous Madeira Wine ? it´s from here!

hi, Paulo,
Such a great gallery you have, also a sweet family.

I have a quesition. Some people here talk about the "stuck control of the G2, do you have this problem?
Thanks.

Hi Picotea, I didn´t have that problem.

If it happened to someone, i believe it could be from a malfunction unit and not a G2 problem.

Paulo,

Wonderful shots! I was wondering if you have any other full size shots or gallery. I did find the one of you daughter and it is truly amazing. Do you mostly resize down and edit before posting. Your pictures are amazing both from a technical and creative prespective. What is your work flow?

Thanks from Sophia's dad(my daughter is Shophia)

Some very nice shots. It was good to have people in some of the distant
landscape pictures since they give it much better perspective. Is it fair to
assume the young lady is your lovely daughter?

Hi Bert and thanks for the too nice comments. I am very happy that my galleries are enjoying forum users - That encourages me to get more and more pictures ;-)
I have posted just one other photo at full size:
http://www.pbase.com/image/1762736

The full size picture of my daughter was posted because someone asked me (don´t remember who) to post a full size pic so that he/she could check for G2 sharpness (I have better samples). As you have already checked, G2 does well on that.

I don´t upload full size pics because they are too big for web display and waist valuable space at pbase.com, but if you want to check anyone more, please ask and I will do it.
I have a very simple and straight workflow.

Shooting and conversion:

-Shoot everything raw for more flexible post-processing and no compromise quality
-Convert using BreezeBrowser using standard settings (as shot) to 95% JPG

Photoshop postprocessing (if want to post to Web):
-Make some level/contrast adjustments (not always)
-Resize for 800x600 bicubic
-Aply some USM. For 800x600 pics I use Amount=65-75%, radius=0.6 and Threshold=2
-Save JPEG quality 7-8

some notes:

Raw is good: Some times, 16bit Tiff conversion will save you a pic because of the "extra" dynamic range; play with it!

Try linear convertion: There are some very good efforts from Colin Walker ( http://www.pbase.com/colinwalker/g2 ), Zoran Zivotic ( http://zivotic.com/g2/linear ) and others, to get you better results than Canon does. It will take you some time on postprocessing, but for "that picture" it worths the pain and results can be stunning!

Hi

Good photography!

Just for interest, did you do any postprocessing? If not I wished I had seen similar out of a D60 (-;
