Canon 17-55 zoom ring feel

of the zoom ring at around 17-19mm. It seems to have no resistance at
all at this length and I'm sure that it would be easy to change focal
length while taking a shot because of this.

Is this common or does it need to be tightened?

Going from from 55-17 is smooth, but going from 17-55, it snugs from
from 17-22 then it's smooth. I heard it's designed that way to
prevent zoom creep.

it is not loose. It feels smooth and consistant throughout the
entire zoom range, although its more "snug" when zooming out than
when zooming in.
