Hi, i own a A40 since 1 month and im very satisfied.

the A40 has a great automatic mode, good effects and many functions you can find on pro cameras...

With 1 set of batteries i have filled the 8mb CF card 4 times so it's not so bad but i suggest to buy rechargable batteries with it.

Compare to others 2 mega-pixels cameras, this is the best value for your money.

If you want to view samples check my database :

Kalvis:

I don't know where you heard about the battery life being short, because that is DEFINITELY one of this camera's strengths...I get on-average 200 shots per charge with 1700 mAH NiMh batteries (highly recommended) AND the autofocus fix is available at the link below:

http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/PSA40/PSA40_Adjustment-e.html

IMHO, the A-40 is, dollar for dollar, the best 2-MP camera out there...

Think of the sub-$300 price and consider these features:

--Auto AND Manual controls
--Terrific lens (especially AFTER the autofocus fix)
--Superb low light/night shot capability due to 15 sec. shutter speed
--Video out for on-TV slide shows (or recording onto VHS)
--Panorama shot mode AND Auto-stitch software included
--Uses AA batteries, which are available worldwide
--Has the BEST accessories available: a telephoto lens; a wide-angle lens;
close-up lenses; even an UNDERWATER HOUSING!
--The optional lenses accept industry-standard 58-mm filters; Imagine the
creative possibilities!

What's Porsche's Slogan? Nothing Even Comes Close....hmmm

Hope this helps...

Dump those alkaline batteries, they just don't last long. I suggest getting Rechargeable NiMH AA Batteries like the Maha Powerex 1800mAh Rechargeable Batteries. (See review at http://www.imaging-resource.com/ACCS/BATTS/BATTS.HTM ).

As for the soft focus problem, I upgraded my A40 with the fix and no more soft focus problem.

I bought an A40 3 days ago. I have played with it alot on one set (4) of alkaline batteries always using LCD. I'm still not getting battery low indicator. I will use recharable NiMH.

The sales rep(s) all told me that AA batteries were undersiable, but the way I look at it is, if my NiMH's go dead I can pick up AA's at the store. If its some odd battery, it's just dead. For camping and outdoor activies you can alwas pack in some xtra AA, can't always find an outlet to re-charge. A lot of people disagree, but AA was a must for me. People look at your camera to see the pictures and then lay it down without turning them off. Pretty soon it's dead.

As too the 13mm your going to have to ask someone else. I've not had mine long enough nor am I an experienced enough photographer to give an opinion.

I did take shots of hummingbirds yesterday and got several with the wings in full stop. ISO 200, cloudy, 1/1500. I wish it had an auto action pre-set, which probably wouldn't take hummingbirds, but would tdo most other action shots that I would take. Also took a pic of my husband at about 4-5 ft with bright light & white in the background, he's in a white T. He did not wash out badly at all. Took one of my son at night in the darkest corner off our livingroom with only a floor lamp on behind me and the TV on to his left, at about 12-13ft away. The flash lit him and everythng else in the picture fine. In both these case they were not the 'perfect' picture, but I took both on fully auto and there was nothing so wrong with them that they could not be printed without editing. I think anyone can take a decent snapshot with this camera, and probably some shots worth enlarging and hanging on the wall. If giving it to someone else to use, remind them to let the auto-focus kick in. I have had no problems with focusing or excessive reds. Camera is easy to use. My son loves the movie mode. This mode was not an issue for me and I did not even research it much, but these are not bad.

Unless something pops in the next month or so, I see this as probably a very good camera for me that had nearly all the features I wanted in the $300 range.
