First testshots G1 from Photokina

I don't know whether you can see 100% of the picture. But it is large enough to be really useful. Of course not so large and bright like D3 but ligthyears better than for example the optical viewfinder for the LX3.

Did you have chance to try the Pany 24mm OVF (or the Leica, I'm not sure if there's any difference)? Or was is irony?

According to the specs, the G10 OVF has been improved significantly, suppose it's decent now.

I tested it only some minutes. Menus/Handling are pretty much the
same as LX3. What impressed me most: the EVF
It is indeed very similar to a real optical viewfinder. No comparison
to the former Panasonic or Leica models with EVF.

For my purposes the G1 is still to big. I usally use Nikon D300 or D3
and want a everyday cam in my pocket with good IQ.
For me, the G1 is too small. Or my fingers are too long. Anyway, the grip doesn't fit my right hand as good as my FZ30 does. And the rubber on the grip is not as good as on the FZ30. But that's all I have to complain about...
By the way: the Panasonic man told me the price for G1 should be
about 700 Euros (body only!). Kits will start at about 1.000 Euros.

Kit with 14-45: 699 EUR
Kit with 14-45 and 45-200: 999 EUR

Or 5 minutes of fear with a friend waiting with the engine running in front of the entrance of the Köln Messe... ;-)

A friend who owned a 350D and now owns a 40D said about the EVF: "The colours are slightly different. Anything else just like my 40D." (Note: nothing about the speed - I couldn't see any lag either.) I told him that the EVF shows the colours as they will be recorded and asked him to try out the film modes...

About the camera itself: The AF speed indoors was amazing. The "keep that girl walking over there in focus"-mode works like hell (tried with the 45-200). The tilt&swivel-LCD is awesome. Exceeded by the EVF. The noise at ISO3200 is quite noticeable, although I like the way the NR works (quite conservative, but I didn't check if it was set to standard).

This surely is an amazing camera.

Yes, I tried the OVF of Panasonic for Lumix LX3. It is very uncomfortable for me because I wear glasses. Normally I have no problems with SLR Viewfinders but this one is very small (and very expensive, too)
