See Amazon ad. The lens is listed as a pre-order.

It is damn expensive at US$1,500, but what is really staggering is the weight. This is going to be one beast to handle. I will need to buy a new pro-standard tripod with dolly. I was looking forward to using this for functions and weddings, but at 67 pounds (about 30 kilograms!!!) it is sadly not portable.

30 kilograms? No probs - I'll go to the gym for some extra workouts! But did you also see that Amazon doesn't offer gift wrapping for it? Sadly this is the show stopper for me - definitely no purchase! ;-)

They wouldn't deliver it to Germany anyway ... :-)))

I started lifting wights with Bigma, this is logical next step. It's great that Pentax cares about our health too. There is not much exercise we can get with limiteds.

I had the chance to hold and try out the DA* 60-250 at Photokina.
Yes - of course (!) - it's big. But it's very well balanced!!!

DA* 60-250 ƒ4
167,5 x 82 mm
1.040 g without Lens Hood
1.120 g with Lens Hood
1.230 g with Lens Hood and Tripod Mount

Why this lens?

I have the Sigma 100-300, a great lens, and I wonder what others see as the big selling point for the Pentax 60-250. I doubt if it will be IQ and it clearly will not be focal length. It will not be price -- it looks like the Pentax will cost more. Neither is a lightweight (1440 grams for Sigma, 1230 grams for Pentax) -- but given that the Sigma works fine handheld, so should the Pentax. So that leaves moisture sealing on the Pentax. Am I missing something?

Darn, I already pre-ordered one! Back to training...

Wonder what they use to ship it in. Jannemans UPS Lady comes free with it?

wow - with all that glass that's what I call value for money, no-one else is offering that much glass in one pkg at that price ;-)

should be good at damping out camera shake if hand held !

Just right for clandestine shooting with those "Tiny Cameras" everyone loves. Makes perfect sense....doesn't it? Just stick your Tiny Camera in your pants pocket with this lens mounted and everyone will think you are "so glad to see them"!

....

The weather seals are not just a few bucks, but the main thing is the SDM, which cost an average of $250-200 more than a regular lens with screw drive AF.
Something else to consider is the resale value which might be higher, maybe not?
IQ is something to be checked.

Shooting in JPEG is like taking your roll of film to the store to be processed, and when
you get your prints, throwing away the negatives...

You should have enough time before it arrives ;)

Nope. And Janneman is upgrading his lawnmower to haul the lens around!

BTW, great signature pic #hehehe#

Cheers

Yes, but at only $50/kg it's Pentax's biggest bargain ever!
