Can You Believe This?!

Julio,

I don't direct any criticisim at you. I just want to say that this "holiday" has somthing connected to it that should have some reverence. Capitalization of "holiday" removed for the lack of appreciation by this populace, as I see it.

Please pardon an over zealous "Patriotism" from an old guy.

No offense taken, John. I found it, let's say--ironic, at worst. But I understand where you're coming from.

i just wanted to voice my opinion on this thread.

lets get one thing straight...i love the US. if they called on me i would fight and die for what the US represents to me and many others.

i am a chinese-american and deny nothing of my heritage or upbringing. but the more i read some of the peoples threads here i find that some of you are either idiots or just plain racists.

julio this is to you, a few months back you posted a thread about pbase and the number of asians on there...and something to the effect of why there weree so many of "them" there were, and wondered if pbas was an asian company....just becaise theere are finally a large nuber of asians depicted somewhere....o that means they must be from asia...

and this made in china flag. WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE? does it take away formt he flag or the representation??? what exactly is ironic about it??

is it ironic that some japanense cars are made in america now?? is it alos ironic that probably half of what you own is made in other contries??

being asian american probably has its downs fallls, and im probably reading this thread all wrong and your intentions as well, but having lived through the 20 years of people calling you names becasue of who you are and the dirty looks people give you...you will never understand the feeling one gets when they are singled out because of their race....

i just dont understand people like you...

Oh, look, I'm just another guy that did what had to be done, and we don't have to get all intensified about this issue.

However, I stand tall when it comes to what I'll call patriotism.

Why don't we all?

And beyond that thought, What the "hell", (capitalization ommited) are we celebrating "ERGO"?

Pardon the seriousness, I just get carried.....

You must be reading this wrong. As for the other thread you mentioned--it was simple curiosity. Excuse me if my curiousity about other cultures is 'racist'. If that's so, then I'm a racist. Happy?! Check this out--I know somewhat of what you've experienced because I am Cuban-American myself! So just relax. The reason I find it ironic is because of all things you'd expect to be made in the USA, I think the flag would be right up there, don't you think?! Take a chill pill!

Isn't China COMMUNIST?! I don't have anything against the people, but I do against that system of government. And yes, Cuba is too--hopefully only til ol' Castro kicks the bucket. I can't believe he hasn't been taken out!!! But my point is, considering what the flag does stand for--I don't think we should be displaying "Made In China" on it--PERIOD!! (Now that you got me to thinking about why I found it ironic! Thank you for helping me to clear that up in my own mind!!)

My turn...

So, the company that sells them found some cheap USA flags, mass produced by underpaid workers.

I work at a sign company that sells US flags. We can't get them for 5 weeks from our suppliers right now. They have been trying to catch up since September 11th. They told me they are going to get them from another source to alleviate their supply problems. That's suppose to be temporary. So, the picture tells all. There's the source...China.

With the cheap prices that they can get them from China, I wouldn't be surprised if the US manufacturers decide not to make their own anymore. Capitalism at work. US workers out of work.

How about the US Army buying their berets from China? Not Taiwan. Red China. Any different than the flag issue? You tell me...

Oh, BTW, how many people who bought a US flag after Sept 11th plan on replacing it when it finally fades and is torn from wear? We have an idea. About 10%.
Flag sales for July 4th are nil.

that's been a "curiosity" to me for some time.

What are you first?

American or Cuban or Chinese?

Why is that the American part is stated second?

I was adopted as an infant so I don't know my actual heritage but my parents are of Irish/Scottish/German heritage.

I don't call myself anything but American.

...Julio...I been meaning to ask... why do you have the Pepsi (capital) logo (no capital) in yer signature?...
...it's OK if you answer with another question...but not satisfying...

I call myself American, also. I came to the states when I was 5, I'm 41 now. I grew up here, married and divorced (unfortunately) a girl from Ohio. I have three children that were born and raised here and don't know a word of Spanish other than what anyone would know. I've lived all over the 48 contigous states and I'm a citizen. I just used the phrase Cuban-American for his sake, to explain that I was born there. I agree with you, once you're an American, then you're an American, not a ??-American. Especially if you weren't even born in the other country(!!) like African-Americans that were born and raised in the states and still call themselves that. Now that's not being racist, that's just pointing out the silliness of that one thing--not of a race in general.
