And, yes, the TiBook is what I use for photo work, despite the LCD screen actually having it in my car means it gets the photos loaded in. So I would rather be able to do all my work on it.

Professional photographers and graphic designers overwhelmingly
choose Mac.
Who says, you? I'm a professional photographer, and Photoshop
doesn't work ANY better on my Powerbook, than on my PC. The files
produced by both platforms are EXACTLY the same (Mac .tif, PC
.tif). Long ago, you might have found a large audience to agree
with you; however in today's computer world, your statement is
simply WRONG.

If anything, there are WAY more 3rd party "helper programs" made
for the PC; all my professional photo editing is done on the PC,
because Breezebrowser, YarcPlus, Qimage, etc. are written for the
PC, have been incorporated into my workflow, and since output is
the same from Photoshop, whether it's on a Mac or a PC, for me the
choice is a NO BRAINER.

Please don't make half-true claims. You may prefer the usability of
a Mac over a PC, that's your choice; however, that doesn't make the
Mac platform a better one for professional photographers and
graphic designers. I don't know what you mean in your claim of
"serious work"; I would think that any work that puts food on the
table and pays the bills would qualify as "serious work", wouldn't
you? Do your homework - practically ALL "serious" software is
ported to both the MAC and PC platforms, is it not?

Will this Ford vrs. Chevy mentality never end?
Professional photographers and graphic designers overwhelmingly
choose Mac. If a software product is aimed at the enthusiast
market, then PC only is fine. But for serious work graphics
programs must be written for Mac operating system. With OSX moving
into the mainstream among Mac users this will be even more true.

I had email Chris earlier and just received his reply

"Hi Larry,

I don't have any plans to write a Mac version at the moment. This is partly
because Canon still have not released a Mac version of their SDK and partly
because it would be a major investment in time and money for me to develop a
Mac version and I'm not sure whether I would sell enough copies to cover the
cost.

Regards,

Chris"

Perhaps we can convince Chris it would be in his best interest to write a Mac Version

Okay, I understand this thread wasn't a PC vs Mac debate but there seems to be a lot of people very loyal to Mac.

So, I have to ask...what are the advantages of using a Mac instead of a PC for photography and graphics work specifically?

I've never used one so I'm not trying to start a flame war, just curious.

Larry -

Maybe you should check just whose post I was referring to...

It wasn't yours, it was Zidar, who said "Professional photographers and graphic designers overwhelmingly choose Mac." That statement wasn't in the spirit of your original query either, was it?

Why didn't you address him directly and tell him not to spew inflammatory one-liners, which simply aren't true. Remarks like that have traditionally started many "wars" here, in the Dodge City of newsgroups.

Oh, and by the way, I wasn't suggesting that this thread (which you started) should end; rather I was questioning why people still imply that the Mac is the do-all, end-all when it comes to graphics intensive computing.

I really believe that you misread my post entirely. As I stated, I own a Powerbook as well as a PC. So I feel that I can be objective about this topic.

Peace...
Gary, if you think the post was flame bait, please don't bite.

This thread had a purpose, and it WON'T be served by turning it
into the "war" you suggest should "end".

"What if they gave a war and nobody (including you) came?"...at
times it's a very good question.

There have been plenty of those inane "Mine is better (bigger?)
than yours!" threads, ...please let's avoid another one. Ignore -
don't shoot back.

Cost / Performance ratio is ridiculously lopsided in favor of the PC.
