You know the 24-105 is being offered as the kit lens with the 5DMKII for about $240 less than the lens alone, right? I'm leaning towards the body only right now but might jump for the kit if they offer a rebate around the second quarter of next year. I have most of the focal range covered with primes and the 70-200 so the 24-105 is not a must have.I feel just about the same way. This new 5DII sounds amazing. 21 MPMisterPootieCat wrote:
I'll probably be jumping on the 5D MKII wagon in about 6 months. So
Canon definitely set the hook! I just ordered the 17-40 F4 L to fill
in the wide end of my lens collection in advance.
would give me good pixel density for macro work but with the
potential for amazingly high-resolution shooting in situations where
I can fill the frame.
And for me too, I'd also need a super-wide solution. And with the
16-35 being so expensive, I'd probably be ordering a 17-40 right
along with the 5D body. I love the 10-22 on the 1.6X bodies, so I'd
be really disappointed to lose that wide end. on FF. So I'm right
with you there, too.
Then I'd want a "normal" or "walk around" lens, too. So the 24-105
would probably be calling out to me. And that would answer my
current objection with Canon not offering a 15-XX lens for the 1.6X
systems. 24mm on FF is a very nice wide end. The 17mm that we get
on the 1.6X offerings is not quite wide enough for me a lot of times,
forcing a lens swap.
I need more money ;-)Fish on!

My 17-40 F4 arrived yesterday. It's only the second L lens for me but looks like something I'll enjoy for many years. I'm looking forward to using it on a FF camera at true UWA! It fills in the gap nicely.
21MP sure has a nice ring to it. I hope DPR bumps the priority on getting the body reviewed. If it truly exceeds the IQ of the venerable 1DSMKIII I'm going to be on it like ugly on an ape! And I'll suffer with the "useless movie mode" and pitiful 4 FPS.
