Well I appiled for permission from my local member for domestic affairs and was given the go ahead to trade up to the K20D.
Man, what a camera. Such an improvement over the K10 and that was a great camera to begin with. The refinements are so nice, for those still umming and arring on getting one or to those newbies on the Pentax scene wondering if you should, here's my observations (all others, scroll down for some images):
Shutter sound - first thing i noticed, definately quieter - i'll be more comfortable snapping away in a church during a wedding ceremony.
Exposure - it's bang on all the time. I used to think it was me getting it wrong whenever I had exposure issues with the K10. Nup. The 20 blows it out of the water. Bang on. Unsure if I'll always use the D-Range feature, it sometimes seems to underexpose too much.
Focus - It is noticeably faster and definately more accurate. My 77 is the only lens so far that i've dialed in a significant amount of adjustment, a quick hack test of all my lenses only so far. I'll do some more testing, but the AF is just better anyway. It locks and stays locked and it's right on, it doesn't need to hunt. Did I say it was quicker?
Higher ISO Noise - awesome, I'm so pleased. ISO800 is totally useable, 1600 too if need be though some more noise, but in all better noise than the K10D sensor IMO. I'm unsure how much NR to use in camera if at all. So far the Weak setting is good, but then C1 4 still applies too much - they haven't written an algorithm to adjust accordingly if the in-cam NR has been applied. Basically the default noise setting for the K20 in C1 4 is overkill IMO, too much detail lost.
Anyhoo, on to some photos. Nothing special, no PPG candidates here but just a wander around nearby home on a glorious London autumn day.
M100/4 Macro
Crop of above
DA16-45 (still a really fine lens, perhaps even better on a K20)
F70-210 (The improvement in IQ from the *istDL to K10 with this lens was impressive, just better again with the 20)
Two lots of wire fence here, I did my best.
M100/4 Macro
Cheers
Ben
