Canon G9 are they worth grabbing now ,Photo IQ or investement classic camer or not !.

The G9 is a good size and pixel count for converting to IR.

I think too many people have a nasty case of the "gotta be current"
disease. Funny how that works with digital. No one seemed to be
driven to own the newest camera body when it was film, but something
about digital makes us all desperate to give the manufacturers money.
LOL. We are all part of the Canon R&D dept! With film we just changed the film and didn't think anything else made much of a difference. I mean, did we worry about lens quality? It isn't so much that the new cameras are digital but that we live in a digital age and can read about new technology and see the differences, etc. You gotta admit this is one hell or an expensive hobby!

The G9 zooms to 210 mm and with the 2X extender you can go to 420mm. The most you can zoom to with the G10 and 1.4X extender is 196mm.

Sue anne, I'm sorry, I was replying to the original poster. I should
have quoted the OP instead.
Ok. :)
My first digicam was also the A80 and
I've taken over 20,000 images with it. It's indeed a classic also.
I don't know why the OP was slamming the A650 though.
I did pick up one of the last new A650IS and experimenting with its settings.

(I still think the A80 does better with its color, sharpness and IQ but the A650IS with the IS, the ability to shoot at higher ISO, 3" screen are all nice improvements)

By the way, I love all of your Pro1 shots. Actually, the reason I
bought a Pro1 was because of you, Marco Nero and Don Ellis, just to
name a few. After seeing the wonderful image quality, I had to have
one. Thanks!
Thank you, I just think the Pro1 does an exceptional job with out too much effort once you have the right settings. :)

Glad you like the Pro1 - its a dying breed. :)

Already the price on the G9 is going up. Beach Camera, an online
retailer that almost ALWAYS has the best low prices on cameras and
lenses, is currently selling the G9 for $599, which is a $100 more
then its initial MSRP.

This type of pricing increase has happened with the previous G7,
A640, Pro 1, and numerous other very popular discontinued models,
immediately after being discontinued.

If you can STILL find a G9 at a reasonable price, then yes, I would
get one. It's a great little cam. Honestly, for me, there's nothing
in the G10 that compels me to upgrade to it at this point.

My post ! and my Update .

Well I got two G9s a week ago before there all gone, after all, both Canon G9 s refurbished, but there obviously new imo, both under £220 but even these refurbs are now going up selling for £230-£250 .

Never my favorite camera at £300 Uk now the price is under £220 I will try one to use at under 100 iso in bright light on bright days not many now in england I fear and next summer, my nieces G9 pics at 80 iso in greece this year convinced me worth a try and the dslr features are well worth having , and one to box up for the future, Ive got this idea the G9 will become a classic like my lovely lovely good up to 800 iso F30 ..

The G10 will not be as popular is my point of view but I could be well wrong, for me at least its not got such good spec as the G9 !

The G10 15 mp and sadly much shorter lens, it will not be so desirable is just my opinion, I dont so much like wider on G10 , but I do prefer longer ie G9 you understand

Off subject but must mention Ive just noticed Amazon Uk are selling the D40 today with kit lens at £220,

In England thats the cheapest Ive ever seen wow ,, but I have two allready, I must say at that price what a whole lot of IQ for not much money if you eventually add a longer lens, I did that the lovely 18-200 VR, perfect for me camera all year round up to 1600iso but a little bulky ah well !.
