Yeah and a pure f5.6 @400, AND you can put the APO TC on it :E

I will buy this if CA is well controlled like 70-300 G

I prefer black, but agree that optical and mechanical quality is much more important.
this lens is really heavy and 1500USD too...

I wonder if this is:
  • Just a strange idea
  • Sony goes for "titanium" as their color (just as when one see white lenses one think "Canon user") and the other lenses will follow in the same color?
  • Sony make "titanium" the color of their middle high end lenses (which doesn't make sense, since black is always good)
aprox 1500 USD is the price of the Canon 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 L IS lens too. And that lens have been on the marked for a long time and the chance the 70-400mm is better is high. So the price is right for a new lens.

If Sony actually made it out out titanium it would be lighter and it might justify the price ;-)

The Sony/Minolta TCs work on the new 70-400, 135 STF and the older APO lenses.
Not on the 70-300 SSM G.

Canons equalent ten year old lens is just as expensive...

If this turns out to beat canons push&pull lens, Sony have topped yet another lens..

Aluminum and Mg. are a lot lighter than Ti. It'd only be lighter if it was made from steel.

Spraypaint is as cheap as a buck a can. If you can afford a G lens, you can afford the paint!
