I recommended to my wifes best friend that she buy a 3030

That was 3 months ago

She's frustrated and irritated because we can't get the camera to uplaod pictures

We installed the camedia software on her PC - no luck - it would not connect to the camera

We then did the same on mine - same result

It asks for a driver - but i have no idea where to find the driver

Anyone know more than me?

Come to think of it. That's pretty likely :-)

Rob

are you using 98? XP? You can get the drivers from olympus' site for 98, XP shouldn't need 'em. The software should have installed them. Then there's also the possibility of using a card reader in stead of the cable.

She and I are both using 2000

I'd have thought that the software would've downloaded the drivers automatically

I have a Canon, previously Sony, never saw anything like this?

Can you suggest.
Should I go to Olympus.com?

I'm not familiar with Win2000 except that I believe that it is "similar" to XP in some ways. When you load the software, does it say that there is no driver, or that "This driver is not logo signed" or somesuch? If that is the case, just hit the "continue anyway" button to load it. That is the situation in XP, don't know about 2000. Anyway, you can go to Olypus.com to get the latest driver specific to 2000. Alternatively, the best way to upload pics is by using a cardreader. They are cheap and fast and they care what kind of camera created the pics or whether you use Camedia or not. All that matters is that the cardreader is made for SmartMedia. Some are made for various types of cards in the same reader.

Thanks for your help
Still in the same predicament

I already told her to get a card reader

However as a Canon/Sony user this is a terrible indictment of Olympus software. hardly intuitive!

The C3030 is USB connect but relies on the Camedia Software to do the transfer. Besides installing the Camedia Software you must also go through a second installation procedure to install the USB driver on your system. I think if you look at the contents of your CD, besides the Camedia software you will also find the drivers.

If you look closely at your manual or installation instructions will should find a separate section that explains how to install the USB driver. It is easily missed. As another has stated, the drivers for every model are also located at the olympus website in the support section, should you not locate them on the CD.

Yes, Olympus takes much pride to insure that a large percentage of customers get confused with their poor installation instructions. Your plight is very very common.

And the advise to also purchase a USB smartmedia card reader is wise.
You'll be glad you did.

I have a 3030 and win 2k. It can be very tricky if your not computer savy. If you install the camedia software correctly connectivity should be cake.

If you have two computers, and you share photos often, it's much nicer to have card readers on both machines. heidi and I both have card readers, and they are great. Also, you can transfer non-photo files on the cards just as easilly. It's like having a 64.Meg floppy drive (or whatever size your cards are).

Of course, if you already share your photo directories over your LAN, then you don't need to use the card reader to share files.

If the 3030 is anything like the e10 they specifically tell you to install the basic software, but also that when you hook the camera up to the computer for the first time, you must have your CD in the drive or the driver download will be missed. Once missed it's a PITA to install them from the cd, but they give instructions for this as well.

I have a C3020Z, with USB connector. I do not use Camedia to download my photos from my camera.

I have made a 'new folder' on my desktop and call it 'digi photos'...I have my Auto-connect USB cable connected to my computer (and I leave it connected)...I then attach it to my camera (which is OFF). Now I go to my programs and find 'windows Explore' and open that with a small window.

Now I turn my camera to the green arrow (where you view your shots)...now scroll down the left side of 'windows explorer' and a 'drive F' should appear.......then DCIM will show on the right...double click that and another folder "100Olymp" shows up....double click that and there will be your photos!

To select all the photos, go to 'edit' and click 'select all' then drag and drop them to your 'Digi photo' file on the desktop.

If my instructions are not clear, then go to http://www.olympusamerica.com and ask for their instructions for 'downloading pictures using an olympus USB auto connect camera'.......document number 2739.....I found all my info there and it works!

I will say Olympus is very helpful when you have questions about your camera...they email back very quickly with good info.

Best of luck!

Lucy,

This user has the C3030 which has standard USB, not Autoconnect. They can not use your directions. They have to use either the Camedia software or a card reader.

contacting http://www.olympusamerica.com did you try that......you can email your question and they are quite speedy with returning an answer. Best of luck!

Seems like if the camera was bought new with all the paperwork, etc., it can be made to work....just a little help from Olympus could make all the difference.

I'm not sure if that is a "storage class" camera, if it is you have to download the usb drivers from the CD rom in addition to camedia.

It will recognise the camera as a hard drive as if it were a card reader. I bought 2 cameras on eBay that the seller said they would not download and they were "storage class" the seller probably didn't know this and tried using camedia..

A storage class device doesn't need drivers installed in a current operating system. That's the purpose of a storage class device, it's supported directly by modern operating systems.

The 3030Z is a discontinued model...even the C2100UZ is not supported in Win2000 or XP out of the box.

There have been several Win2000 updates for compatibility including for USB. Did you have all of those?

Sad that you rate a camera based soley on whether it uploads images directly when most people use card readers anyway.

Does the 3030Z use the Camedia Software? There is a free update for it that partially supports XP...v2.01.

I have two card readers and use XP Pro...neither of them work 100%.
