d60 shipment status

That ties in with what two seperate dealers here in the UK have told me - that nothing has shipped from Canon in three weeks (not sure if that's just D60's or anything at all)

I have been an annyygnly close "Second on the list" for close to a month now.

Neil
I just got off the phone with Penn camera. I was told a couple of
weeks ago that I was in the next batch, after two weeks I called
to ask what was going on.

I was told that they have not received any shipments from Canon in
3 weeks. He indicated to me that no one is.

I have no idea if this is true or not, but I sure haven't seen any
posts regarding "I GOT MINE" in a long time ;-)

I recently wrote a letter to Canon Customer Relations (what an oxymoron) complaining about their distribution fiasco with the D60. I inquired if first order in was the first order out and when would we see D60's on dealers shelves. Today I received an answer to my letter. I quote what was replied;

"We sincerely regret the diffuculty you experienced with you camera order. Canon constantly strives to maintain the highest levels of customer satisfaction." "Unfortunately demand for these cameras has exceeded Canon, Inc.'s forecast. All Canon cameras are manufactured in Japan. The EOS D60 camera bodies are being shippped to the United States for sales distribution as quickly as possible."

So what new did the letter writer add. What a relevation, the camera is made in Japan. They are being shipped as quickly as possible for distribution. WOW!! I'm impressed, I eventually will have a camera made overseas and very quickly. What a bunch of bunk. I have an order with Northern Ohio's largest dealer. They received 2 D60's for the entire month of June. At that rate it will be January or February 03 when I will receive mine.

Larry
Just makes me wonder, T. Perschke, if you have my camera. : )

If you didn't want it, you should have canceled your order so that
whoever else is on the list would get one.. instead of it just
sitting in a box. : P

Just to follow up, I found out yesterday that Penn got six cameras in, all were already shipped, and mine, which was "promised" twice to be in the next shipment wans't.

I have no idea whos problem this was, but they couldn't/wouldn't even tell me where I was on a list. Needless to say I was so upset with them I cancelled the order.

I think I am going to bite the bullet and get a 1d. I would love the extra res of the d60, but the advantages of the 1d are so nice for wildlife shooting, that I guess a second mortgage on the house would be worth it :) At least I hope so.

Plus I leave for an overseas trip next week, and at least I will have a camera!

Bob

ps feel free to tell me I won't regret this decision.....LOL...this camera is going to be worth more than my car.

I ordered from State Street Direct (SSD) on April 4th at 223 on the list. My place has dropped steadily until 6/14 when it did not change much for several weeks. It appears the volume of shipments has dropped off. I am now 86 on the list and when I plot it out, it looks like October before I can expect my D60. I have not placed multiple orders, but now I wish I had. I predict we'll never know the truth about the delays. I'm going to Africa tomorrow, very sorry that I'll have to take my old gear. Good luck to everyone still waiting.

What did you expect to hear? They'll give you a free one for waiting so long?

Well, up till now I really liked Adorama. Prices were a little
better than B+H everything shipped on time etc. When I ordered my
D60 on 18 April my salesman, Meyer, swore that he could get me a
D60 in 3 weeks. Did I mention that he called me, I didn't call him?
Anyway, the three weeks went by and obviously there was no D60. I
called and pestered him about it once a week or so until I finally
got it 27 June. So I ended up waiting about 10 weeks for it. But
that's not what ticked me off. What got my goat was the way that he
acted when I called. He would very sharply state that Canon has
told them next week my D60 would be in and rush me off of the
phone. This went on for about 7 weeks. Now I do understand that he
probably didn't have a clue about when my camera was coming I wish
that he would have just told me so.

I'm not saying that I'm done doing business with Adorama, but in
the future I'll be leaning more towards B+H.

Thanks Ty

Sounds like a rough time. Were you charged the correct amount and all, and did you order anything else at the same time? My main concern is not getting screwed in any way like it sounds too many have been. I ordered the grip, a battery, a 512mb card, and a reader too. My salesman is Sy, and so far, so good. Even told me they just could not say when or how many D60's they'll be getting, at the whim of Canon. Asked me to call next week to see about progress. Really was very helpful on the phone, but the horror stories about Adorama are all over the internet, so...I'm a bit nervous. They do belong to BBB, surprised more people don't go that route to get things resolved. Hope I won't have to.

I just left Mike's Camera in Denver CO. The salemen told me that Cannon just shipped a large order to the LA Times and skipped all the back orders of the stores. Don't know if its true.

Orders have always been accurate. Except for them sending me a third party BP-511 instead of a Canon BP-511. They only charged me the third party price and when I called about it they were more than happy to correct the problem.

I think for the most part that your experience with Adorama will be based on whoever your salesman is.

I ordered from B&H on the 19th of June and I had to pre-pay. They have assured me that it will only be 3-5 weeks! I have called them twice to verify this. What are my chances?

How many cameras could the L.A. Times use? Assuming they equipped every photographer with a D60 (unlikely, since the 1D is made for journalists) it would only be a handful in the grand scheme of things. I'm guessing quality control problems are at the bottom of this mess.

I got mine this morning from the local Shutterbug store. My order was placed on May 16th and at the time I was number 26 on the waiting list, so it was a long wait. They said they received 8 cameras this past week. I moved up each week, so it seems that there shipments have been fairly steady, although they did not get any the week before last for some reason.

Still waiting on my d60 from pc mall, ordered on may 11th. I also had an order in with adorama and had Meyer as a salesman. I didn't like dealing with him either. I told them that I needed the order shipped us mail and he told me it couldn't be done that way. After telling him that i really wanted it shipped that way because i didn't want it left on my doorstep like ups would do it, he said he would check and see. My order was cancelled by them a couple of days later. No notice from them. Just so you know.

Why the heck would the LA Times want D60s instead of 1Ds? And even if they did, that would only account for at most about 100 cameras.

I called today and B&H are not currently taking any orders for D60's.
They hope to be able to be in position to take orders by the
end of the week. From this I presume that they have not
been receiving D60's recently.

(7/1) I just talked to the people at huppins/onecall who say that the only got 6 cameras in the last month. As I said before, I was #29th as of 5/20. Today they said after looking through their sale slips that I am around #13. I relayed them your (joey's) message of being #6 on list ordering on the same day... they said they could really see that being possible. Still, all and all they seem like really nice people doing the best they can.
