In my opinion the G series has definitely ended with G6 model, given the fact that it was the best G model regarding image quality.

I agree, I love my G6 a lot.In my opinion the G series has definitely ended with G6 model, given

If you e-mail me I might have a solution for "G6 don't work no more" for you.I cried the day I had throw my G6 into the pile of "it don't
work nomore" stuff in the closet...
Even though I am not a fanboy of any brand (I have Panny, Sony, Fuji, Canon and Nikon) I am sick and tired of few individuals polluting every single new Fuji/Canon/whatever thread with DSC-G1 troll posts.Panasonic G1 (4/3 micro)
I had a G6, it was very nice, but it to smeared detail in landscapes just like the latest cameras. It was noisy at ISO 200.In my opinion the G series has definitely ended with G6 model, given

Don't know that the G6 sensor was all that good, it smeared details right along with the best of them. The S80 sensor was much better than the G6 sensor IMHO. But the reincarnated G line is certainly a different animal than their G1-6 predecessors, you're right about that. The G7/9 was a different type of camera, and this new G10 is the definitive upgrade path from the S80 (if you can consider 15MP an "upgrade", albeit a bit larger than the old Sx0 series was.In my opinion the G series has definitely ended with G6 model, given

I was doing just that yesterday, downsize the official G10 samples to various sizes down to 2208x1656. What I found is, the images look most pleasing @ around 5MP or a bit higher, compared to old powershots with 5MP to 7MP, the G10 downsized images look very sharp (no need for any USM), but I suspect that the "lighting appearance" or dynamic range of 5 to7MP cameras is better. I tried hard to find any details that were lost as a result of downsizing from 14.7 to 5MP, I couldn't see any (at 14.7 the images are full of mush). Hyper-MP on a tiny sensor is just unnecessary in most cases, the best compromise with current technology could be something like 8MP.I had a G6, it was very nice, but it to smeared detail in landscapesIn my opinion the G series has definitely ended with G6 model, given

Take a G10 image and downsize to 7MP and it will blow away the G6
image quality IMO.
The G6 had an awesome grip though. It was a kung fu grip. Felt like
it was molded for my hand. I will miss that.
Other things people miss: The fold out screen. Well I am not a fan of
side fold outs they throw off my framing for some reason, and the
tiny low res screen on the G6 was terrible in any light at all.
I don't think we should weep to many tears until we actually did a
7MP comparison to new and old and I think the G10 would win handily.
Build quality has improved, exp compensation and ISO as controls now,
and 28mm wide end as well.
I would love to see a comparison if someone ends up with both.
You do realize that ISO "400" on G6 is actually ISO 640?I was genuinely surprised that the G6 noise was so horrible at
ISO400. It was beaten badly by the G7 and 950. Additionally the
detail in the G7 and 950 was better. Not by much but still better.
Another surprise was the lens of the G6. Although faster, the falloff
of edge and corner sharpness was worse than the G7 and 950. Here's a
quick side by side picture of the G6 vs 950 at ISA400, .jpg straight
from camera.
In all sincerity, do you truly believe that the G2 had the best IQ? That is, suppose you had an assignment (self imposed or otherwise) to use a G series and produce the best 8x10 print that you could. You can choose any G series camera. Would you really use the G2? Suppose the print was to be 16x20?(G2 had/has) the best IQ of the GX.
