You have a valid point here Phil, however, this has been going on for
a looong time, and not only in this particular board. I think the
triggering point was the D3 release,
Over here perhaps. We endured years of Canon trolls taunting us constantly before the D3 when Nikon was not keeping up with the competition as well as they are now. I'm not surprised once Nikon started their turn around in earnest some people indulged in a little payback. Not that I approve of such silliness.

I'm really pleased with the gear from both companies and very happy the competition is driving them both forward at a furious pace.

Here's to all brands living in harmony and to many many great cameras from all brands in the future!

BTW, as a D700 user, I think the 5D mk2 is pretty sweet sounding.

That's great Phil!

Thank you very much!

Cheers!

Danny Tuason :)
Ok guys, so we've let you blow off some steam, frankly I'm amazed to
see so many people bemoaning one or two small items and missing the
bigger picture. But hey what do I know.

So, take a deep breath and if you've got a serious argument to make
please do so in a measured and thoughtful way. And we will not
tolerate any more simple brand bashing posts "oh nikon / sony are
scr_ "... No more.

If this kind of thing continues we will start banning those people we
see as causing the most trouble.

I don't think many of us will be sorry to see a change in tone.

Do you have a clear set of rules for the forum posts? If not, perhaps arbitrary hatchet jobs are not the best way to run a discussion board: ex officio interference might be fine as long as it is moderation not censorship.

Thanks, Phil. It will be nice to just discuss photography and the best way to use the gear to take pictures.

Thanks Mr. Askey. I have, for the past few years, been hesitant to post here in this forum .... sifting my way through the flamming posts trying to find decent and consumable content to read. This is definitely the wildest at most out of control forum I'm ever seen, but hopefully your announcement will change all of that.

I can't wait for dpreview's full take on the new 5DmkII.

Regards,
J

People are really losing their heads around here.

It is Phil's board and get to enjoy it at his pleasure. If you want freedom get your own soap box.
Thanks, Phil

The rules SEEM clear enough:

"Flame/Attacks"
"Trolls"
"Bashing"
"Harassment"

All with definitions...

Thanks Phil

...and then raving or complaining about their features versus other models and other manufacturers.

If this website was about taking photos, as some wish the discussions centered on, it would be called photoreview.com, or something else.

I love this website because we talk about technology and we can openly compare and challenge one manufacturer against another, good or bad.

Sure, there are some bad eggs here. But usually if you ignore them they get bored.

BTW, Isn't more posts giving you more page hits and more advertising revenue? I would think you would be overjoyed! :-)
