I have posted here in the past regarding the quality of certain tripod mounts and had indicated some fairly unsatisfactory "wiggiling" of the camera.

Last night I was charging my Lipo battery. (doesn't need to be done very often)

Anyway, I stuck the camera on the tripod just to have a place to put it, and found that it was rock solid.

Upon further inspection of the battery grip I found that the tripod mount is moved forward about 1" from where the cameras mount is located. It apears that they had to do this to allow space for the mount screw to go into the grip without hitting the battery.

Well, this is what is causing the "wiggiling" when mounting the Camera W/lipo on the tripod. This deffinatly feels like a week link.

Anybody developed a work around for this?

Get and use the wired remote RM-CB1

FWIW I am also highly disapointed in this tradeoff as I am a pano fan.
Check out http://www.photobooksonline.com/gear/kaiserTR.html for a

cool looking level that mounts in the flash shoe. I have one on order and will let you know how it works in a few days.

Not on my tripod/camera/liPO.

Check that there is not a raised portion of the tripod head platform that is keeping the LiPO from making good contact.

I have tried two Bogen 3030 heads, both have fairly bad wiggle problems. I did not experience this at all when I tried a Tiltall tripod, which comes with a head that I prefer to the 3030. The Tiltall had a very good connection with the E10 and Lipo grip, so good you could not tell the tripod was connected by a single screw (if there was even the slightest movement of the camera, you could bet the entire Tiltall tripod was moving with it). I'm going to have to look at other tripod heads, but you can bet I won't be concidering anything made by Bogen unless their design has drastically changed.

Good Point! I do have the Bogen quick release and with the LiPo you can
see the cork layer curl up. Definately chintzy for a pod this expensive.
Thanks for the alternative suggestion.
We dont have this problem with the Bogen we got for our video camera
at the TV station as it has the sliding triangular plate quick mount.

what size is the tripod mount you are you using? I use bogen quick release mounts and boegn tripods and nufin wiggles :)

Hi John,

I have the Bogen 329RC4 which I mount the camera and Lipo and have a pretty solid mount. Ocasionally, I have the camera, Lipo, medium format Stroboframe, and a Metz flash mount on this head without any problem (even in portrait mode). Go to Bogenphoto site and find out more information.
Hope this adds a little more confusion to your problem.
