I am new to the photography world and have been reading many of your reviews and suggestions over the past few weeks. I have recently bought a Sony DSC707 and a Canon 900 printer. I have taken many photos and have wasted my share of photo paper trying to get the settings right. I have not been impressed with many of the photo papers that I have tried especially the Kodak and HP papers. I noticed that many of you have had great success with the Epson papers and was wondering where you are buying them. I have checked several of our local stores including Best Buy and they only seem to carry the lower end papers for Ebson. Any suggestions that you have will be greatly appreciated including any settings for the printer that you could recommend.

Debbie,

Try buy.com they have the best prices I've seen on paper, ink, printers, scanners, memory cards etc... They ship really quick. I've made many orders and never had a problem.

Debbie, if you're near a MicroCenter they have the most abundant and different brands of paper I've seen anywhere...at least the one I go to in Va. Hope that helps.

Debbie, Hi:

Costco Warehouse sells Epson Glossy paper at a good price. 100 sheets of 8.5x11" for $19.88. SKU# is SO41141-100 and ITEM #41864. I have an Epson printer and they sell two-packs of Black and Color inks for under $40 dollars. As an amateur, this does OK for me. Cheers! Bruce.

Thanks for the info everybody. I am really wanting to try out the Espson Premium Luster paper. I stopped by Staples and Office Max yesterday, but no luck!... If I don't find it this weekend, I will look into ordering it from one of the online sites mentioned.

This paper does not work well with the S900/S9000. The ink comes right off the paper if it gets at all wet. It's comparable to the HP and Kodak papers.

If you're looking for Glossy there are several choices:
Canon Photo Paper Pro
Epson Premium Glossy Phogo Paper (use settings for Canon PPP)
Office Depot Premium High Gloss Photo Paper

Can't help you with matte or luster papers...my kids like the glossy look.

I get mine at my local high-end photo stores. Both of them carry a full range of Epson papers, as well as Canon, Ilford, Luminos etc. Maybe not the best price, but certaily convenient, and I like supporting local businesses when I can.

Although paper can effect the quality of the output, the S900 should print beautiful pictures on most glossy papers (Kodak, HP, Epson, etc.). There really aren't any "settings" you have to change other than:
  • Deep clean twice
  • Normal clean once
  • Align the print head
In the printer properties select glossy paper and that's about it. Granted you can do profiling and other tweaking but the prints should look great after doing the above.

If you are having problems with the color green looking bad (loss of detail), then the above procedure should fix it. (Canon Tech Support suggestion which worked for me).

If that doesn't help, please post more details as to what is wrong with the prints.
