I have a libretto 70ct with a 1.6 HD. I just ordered an 8.1 drive to replace the smaller one. I want this install to go without hassle. I don't have a cd

rom for it so I was thinking of imaging my original disk on my desktop and then reformatting and placing image on the new drive on the desktop.
This way I should be able to place the new drive in the libretto and boot

right up. Will this work? I will be using Norton Ghost. What kind of adapter do I need to put my laptop drive into my desktop computer?

This universal adaptor converts your 2.5 inch notebook hard drive
to a standard 3.5 inch PC Compatible Hard Drive (Includes Power and
40-pin IDE adapter board).

Heres what I did installing a 6Gb to my CT50:
1.Using a 2.5/3.5 converter format the disc with the desktop and copy
required dos files including fdisk.

2.Boot up in the Lib and repartition disc into 2 (1.5G for op system,programs etc; 4.5G for photos etc.) Reason is Lib's BIOS reserves some space for hibernation.
If you use the desktop's partitioning your data will be overwritten.
3.Reinstall in desktop and format the first partition into bootable;
format and copy windows installation files (or Ghost image) to second partition.
4.Reinstall in Lib and install windows form the second partition.
Here are some useful sites:

Good luck

Should work similarly with Ghost.

1. Used 2.5 to 3.5 hard drive adapter to hook laptop drive up to my desktop. I used secondary IDE port. Sometimes cables will have missing pin hole. The adapter had all pins. Luckily I had cable with all holes. Be sure to orient cable correctly.

2. Ran Drive Image and imaged drive.

3. Connected new drive.

4. Imaged it back. Drive Image will copy to different size drive no problem.

5. Stuck new drive in laptop and it worked just fine.

Word of caution. Depending on your bios you might need to install some type of bios manager to see whole drive. Not sure how that will effect imaging.

I think I used DriveImage which also works as a backup program but you could use DriveCopy which is $20 cheaper.

Finally....some help...thanks guys..I will be looking into these methods. Lee,
I don't understand why I can completely format in the pc and add the
image from my current Lib HD to the first partition of the new one. How do

you make a partition bootable? But I'm a computer idiot, so you have to spell things out pretty simply for me.

Here are a few notes .....its been a few years....hope this is correct:
1.Disconnect the master HD in yr desktop.
2.Connect the new disk; switch on and as it bootup press "delete" to go
into bios setup; go to the section for HD and make sure that yr new disk
is detected.
3.Boot up again with the floppy Win98 startup disk (make sure you have a
copy of fdisk.exe in the floppy).
4.Start fdisk and say yes to large disk support.
5.Type option 4 to check if you are looking at the right disk and change
disk if necessary.
6.Choose option1 to create primary dos partition to the size required;
with the rest for ext dos partition.
7.Choose option2 to set the primary dos partition active.
8.Exit and reboot to dos; format s the new partition to make it bootable.
9.Reconnect yr master HD and boot into windows; copy all win98
setup files, Libretto win98 drivers etc to the disk.
10.Reinstall to the Lib; switch on and it should boot to dos.
11.Find the dir with yr setup files and install windows to the
first partition.
12.When you have windows installed and running properly;
boot into msdos mode; use fdisk to delate the ext dos partition;
bootup in msdos mode again and re make the ext dos partition.
You will notice that the ext dos partition is now slightly smaller;
this is because the Lib uses several sectors at the end as a
hybernation area and you dont want to be writting data to this
area.
13.Bootup into windows and format the partition.

Note if yr Ghost image is of a win98 sys then you can simply
ghost the image to the first partition.Win95 cannot support large
disk. You will still have to do 12.
