Do you think 5D price will go down?

If you're asking what it will go for in the retail market, they'll likely take it off of the shelves and keep the price high or raise it so high you wouldn't want to buy it.

My advise is to buy used if you want a good deal on a 5D am sure that many people bought 5Ds for landscape and that "ussually" means not that much shooting.

From my experience the price for new doesn't really drop all that much after a new release. I am sure the camera stores adjust purchasing so they either run out just before or after the new model is introduced.

The price will certainly go down a little, but the price of used 5D's will go down dramatically. By the way I think the price of the mkII will be surpisingly low. It will drop under the current 5D price in under a year.

Actually a lot of professionals who have been getting by with 20Ds and 30Ds until now ARE buying 5Ds right now.

Their logic is that as professionals, they need backup bodies. The price for a new body is as cheap as it's going to be, so they're buying them now to be their backups to a future purchase of a 5D Mk II.

If they wait until the Mk II actually appears, it's very likely that remaining 5Ds on dealers shelves will be gone in the blink of an eye.

That's what everyone is hoping for. Of course, if there is a lot of demand for it, and if it means that less people will buy the 5D II, then it would just be a really bad move on Canon's part to sell it cheap, and keep selling if they are interested in making money.

Yes, the price will drop quite a bit. Ebay price usually gives you a good idea of how much a camera is worth. Right now a new 5D is worth about $1800 on Ebay, it should drop below $1500 in the next few months.

5D has been discontinued about a month ago (confirmed by retailers over at FM's website), so any new ones you see right now are the last new ones available.

. . . when I killed my 1DsMkIII last fall, I had to decide what to do. I ended up with a couple of 40D's to get me through this year.

I can afford to wait until January or Feb at the latest, but at that point I'll either be buying a couple Canon full-frames that are better than the 5D and less $$$$ than the 1DsMKIII, or I'll be buying a couple of D700s and some new glass.

Best,
Paul
