I'm finally catching up on some pictures. Here are a few pictures from a drive down Hwy 1 along the central California Coast taken last week - the full set is in my zenfolio gallery below. We caught Pacific Coast Hwy near Monterey and continued down to Lompoc and Santa Barbara, stopping along the way to explore.

The morning was cloudy when we first set out, then the sun started to peek through. The pictures below are in order - the morning was cloudy but the sun eventually broke through.

C&C is welcome as always.

Carmel, what a dramatically beautiful place

Just a little further south of Carmel

Near Big Sur

Notice the "beachfront cows" - this is why California cheese taste so good... happy cows = tasty cheese ;-)

The sun going down as seen from my outside my truck's window

More can be seen in my web site below...

Thanks for stopping by!

One word --------- EXQUISITE!!

Number six, first bridge picture and last bridge are my favorites, in that order.

Nothing I know of in Florida that can compete with that scenery. I thought I had opened a page in National Geographic.

It would be really tough to capture that part of the world any better than this. Congratulations and thank you.

I spent most of my life in Washington State, Oregon and Northern California. I have been to these places you document so beautifully many times and never came back with anything close to these images.

Whenever the topic of "If you could go back in time, where and when would you go..." comes up, my hands-down answer is always to have seen the American West as Lewis & Clark saw it.

Thank you for sharing.

Hi there Albert

What fantastic photos you have got there, everyone is excellent and I was even more impressed when i exif 'd them and realised we have the same camera !! I SHOULD be able to get photos like that .... what lens did you use Albert as they are all pin sharp .. Who needs a D90 with results like that from a D40X? haha
Most envious !
Regards
Sally

Hi Mike, thanks for commenting, #6 is probably my favorite of the series as well, though I really like the reflected sunset in the window as well, but that's more of a personal feeling I have with that one, I noticed it as I was returning to my truck, it just happened to catch my eye as I as getting back, and thought I was lucky to see it.

Thanks for your very kind comments!

Hi Robert, thank you for your very generous comments. It is indeed a beautiful place, hopefully I am able to do it some justice and show it as I saw and felt it. I need to start doing some panoramas so I can show more of what I see and want to portray.

I also wish I lived in the 1700 or 1800's in the old west. A tough time to be sure, but probably just as rewarding as it was hard.

Hey Arthur - thanks for the great comment! I really enjoyed shooting these pictures and climbing the cliffs to get them and to just enjoy the scenery and the sound of the water.

I am trying to get out more, but often, work gets in the way :-)

Thanks again!

Hi Sally, yeah, what a shocker that some of us still use just a D40x right? ;-) These were taken with the 18-55 kit lens. I love this camera, I've learned a lot from it and I'm sure I will (hope to anyway :-) continue to learn. At some point, I will probably get a D300, but I will also keep this little gem as a second camera.

Thank you for your very nice comments. Don't sell yourself short, I've seen your photos! Keep up the great work!

Hi Daniel. I shoot in raw and PP in Capture NX. Some of the pictures here, I did some wb adjustments, lightening of some of the darker areas that were in shade, with contrast and brightness adjustments as desired. I also don't use in-camera sharpening, I prefer to do that in Capture NX as well. Some perspective correction was needed on the bridge photos.

Hi Kris, welcome to the forum, and thanks for commenting. Please read my reply to Daniel B about the PP.

Congrats on your decision to buy a Nikon. This is a great forum, there are a lot of people who are very helpful and give tough but honest opinions and advise on your work if you ask.

nice shots of a beautiful area. you shots really show the expanse of the scenery there.lived in calif for 20yrs and never got tired of this drive. the beaches just north of santa barbara to hearst castle area i think are the nicest in the world. of course thats was back in the 60 and 70s, things change but doesn't look like big sur has. thats the only part of calif i miss. again nice work on a hard area to do justice to.

I loved all of your shots! Next Spring, I will be visiting some relatives in beautiful downtown Burbank, and and then a brother in law up in Mendocino. I will be retracing a lot of your steps, only in reverse.

Maybe I will get lucky, and capture some "California dreamin" of my own.

Keep shootin, dude!!!!
